If only

Post by walks with gun »

If only I had more money to play with, our local Pawn shop has a early model 10, six inch in 32-20. It's been reblued but by someone who new what they were doing so it would be a great shooter as opposed to a worthless safe queen. $539.00 seems like a pretty good price to me. I really don't need it, so I'm not going back in there for awhile. I NEED another carry gun, or duck gun or a varmint rifle or a.

I Feel your pain I was looking at 20 ga doubles yesterday and my Wife reminded me I foolishly told her I didn't need any more guns about 15 years ago.

Is it really possible to have too many 20 gauge doubles. what if the wife decided to take up upland hunting, wouldn't it be nice to have options for her to choose from, you'd only be thinking of her happiness.

Can you leave with an empty case, and come back with a double?

A 32-20 wouldn't be a bad carry-gun, actually....

I'd love to have a SP-101 chambered in 32-20 (even though 327 Fed is probably more 'practical' ).

I'd love another Colt SAA. I have two now, a first and a second generation. Both are 5.5" and I want a 4.75.

Prices are crazy though. Can't bring myself to spend the money, or sell something, over .75" of barrel.

Wadda mean..."if I had more money"? What the hell is $500 in today's world?

You want that gun....GO DOWN AND GET IT! I never made more than 44k a year and even a peon like me can come up with that kind of loot.

That's true.

Hell, I'm turning 50 this July so I told the Mrs that I'm setting up an Idaho elk hunt in November with an outfit out of Challis. I may just go and buy that Ruger #1 in 300 H&H that I've always wanted.

Not that the 30-06 or .270 couldn't do the job, but this birthday deserves another special rifle....

Need? If "need' were the main criteria for what I shoot and buy, I'd still only have the Marlin 336 and the Mossberg 500 in the safe.

Ruger #1 in 300 H&H is one I would like as well. But I'm torn between that or one in 9.3x 74R.

I heard once that when ya kick off to be sure there is 1 check left in the checkbook for the under taker and that it bounces!

So in the mean time, whelp those puppies, shoot for fun, fish as much as possible, enjoy nature, eat what you like, remember the good- forget the bad and be PROUD to be an American!

After getting hurt again and being now disabled, a little over $1,100 a month then house payment, truck payment, insurance, heat, electric and the never ending medical bills, my gun buying day's are probably over. $500 is at least two years saving as long as I don't have vet bills truck problems or any household emergency. It still doesn't keep a guy from wanting though. I'm glad I bought some ones I really liked over the years.

Good points.

My problem is that I trusted in 'delayed gratification' too many times. That works great in the bedroom for extra fun, but when you get $350,000 in debt to get an education taking so long you're 32 years old before you get your first job, then trust Anthem not to lie to you and rip you off, all of a sudden you're 60 years old, with a net-worth still in the negatives, and working 80 hour weeks. The three stupidest things I ever did (other than whizzing on the electric fence that time) were:
  • 1. Waste seven more years of education after graduating in the top of my Pharmacy school class, and delay entering the workforce in order to take a pay cut for a more stressful job.

    2. Do Family Practice residency instead of Anesthesia or Gynecology, if I wasn't willing to screw patients by doing 4 minute office visits and sending the patient to specialists for everything I couldn't dream up an unnecessary procedure for, or just blow off and ignore.

    3. Not sign on with a hospital as an employee, which would quadruple my income, and get me 30 more hours at home each week.
However - I CAN look in the mirror without shame, and I DO feel I have fullfilled God's calling, and I ALWAYS am thankful for the opportunity to help others, and I NEVER end my day feeling I short-changed some patient so their insurance company could benefit and cut me in on the action, and therefore I WILL buy a reasonably-priced 'toy' when I can get a bit ahead, because in my line of work I know all-too-well how life can be cut short, and along with the 'helping others' stuff, it's ok to mix in a bit of FUN....!

You're a good man Doc.

Guess for me, truthfully, I have more than I ever thought I would now. I will turn 50 this year, and for this part of the country, I've been very lucky. Don't get me wrong, I don't have whole lot, but I remember being a kid and dreaming about the future and what I wanted. It wasn't as much as I actually have.
It's normal for a man to want more, but I think many today expect too much, that's why they aren't happy no matter how much they have.

What's wrong with me? These are uncharacteristically deep thoughts for me. :D
