Read on another site, that he is back in the hospital. Only thing mentioned was that he had been having memory problems for the past month or so, though only 2nd hand information. If so maybe somebody here more familar can add more informative?
In any case prayers sent!

Prayers up for Mike V. Even though he has cost me many thousands of dollars. One of my favorite authors, and one of the very few, who is on my bucketlist to be able to buy dinner, and talk to.

I believe he had a stroke some years back. I hope it isn't related to that.

On Mike's FB page: A day or so ago, he woke up in hospital not knowing where he was, but things were starting to come back to him
Today he posted about much better with his memory intact. <-- Not quotes, but as I understood it.

Mike went into the hospital with a bad case of stomach flu. I talked to him on the phone and he sounded quite sick. I was picking up a package at his house on the way home and called him again to let him know. He sounded much more normal, but was completely confused and didn't know where he was or even what year it was.

I got Yvonne at the house and we headed back to the hospital at nearly 100 MPH. When we got there, they were bringing him into an observation room after a CAT scan. He was alert as far as sitting up and talking, but totally unaware of where he was and what date it was. He couldn't remember anything for the past few days, maybe even weeks.

The doctor suspected a stroke brought on by the tremors and affects of the flu. He was concerned about what the damage may be, and they needed to do more tests and keep him in the hospital overnight. They did an MRI and both it and the CAT scan showed no sign of internal problems.

Diagnosis TIA (Treansient IschemicAttack) I stopped in on my way back from Billings and saw him, as he was home by 5:00 that afternoon. He was back to normal, memory restored and in good spirits, at which time I had to remind him he owed me several hundred dollars and I would appreciate payment in cash.

Things are back to normal...

Glad to hear he's on the road to recovery! I own three of his books. The lever guns book is just about worn out and the Six guns book is starting to fall apart it's been read so many times. I also have the Buffalo Guns book. Every one of them is well worth getting.

Shrapnel, I'll have to remember the 'You owe me several hundreds ....' idea next time one of my friends is recovering from a memory lapse. :D

Carlsen Highway: I check Buffalo Arms web site and Venturino's books are in stock --

Shooting Buffalo Rifles of the Old West -- http://www.buffaloarms.com/Shooting_Buf ... x?CAT=4150
Shooting Lever Guns of the Old West -- http://www.buffaloarms.com/Shooting_Lev ... x?CAT=4150
Shooting Six Guns of the Old West -- http://www.buffaloarms.com/Shooting_Six ... x?CAT=4150

As they are books, they should ship at the international book rate. I just received a used book from the UK and shipping was very inexpensive -- around US$5.00 -6.00.

Or check the used books sites.

I also appreciate Mike's knowledge, but here's some cold, hard truth regarding what I've seen of him.......he's about 200lbs overweight, etc. That means he has NO sense of responsibility regarding caring for the body GOD gave him. He can rehab, if I might use that term, himself, & I pray to God he comes to that awareness, but it's up to him, not doctors. I appreciate everything he's done for the shooting community & hope he'll recover. jd45
