My new (to me) Miroku Model 73, 45 Colt

Post by trooper joe »

Just picked this up at a gun show today. Appears as new with a neat Marble tang sight installed. Was sort of waiting for a .357 Mag model but this 45 Colt model was hard to walk away from.

Love it!

When I can free up some gun money, I'd like another lever. Those 73s are high on the list. 8)

Throw it in a saddle scabbard, hunt with it, carry it all over the back country with rough leather gloves, and in about 75 years it will look right and proper. As it is it just looks too nice.

That hammer is HARD!the red blueing always bothers me. If it was mine, I'd polish to 400 grit, then Belgium blue it and polish the sides off...but that is a beaut none the less!

I looked at a few but the finish on the stock and for end was funky looking. that one looks right and has some class. I want one in 44-40. Good Job. :D .

Been bugging the "Winchester" people for a carbine buttstock & short 16 or 20-inch barrel version for two years.
If they make 'em, I'll buy.
In the meantime, I can't tolerate that crescent buttstock. :)

You just have to hold one a bit further out on your shoulder... not in the hollow. I get far less stock slip with the crescent over a carbine.

Griff,
Dude! Bro! Buddy! Pal! Compadre! Amigo!

I liked Ike.
I know what Compound was in a truck & I remember foot starter pedals.
I had a Frisbee when it was originally called a Pluto Platter.

Been around for a while.
Been at the game long enough to know what the crescent is & how it's used.
Owned one, for a while.
Know where you position it.
HATE 'em!!!!!!!!! :)

I liked Ike. Ike was before my time.
I know what Compound was in a truck & I remember foot starter pedals. Yep and yep.
I had a Frisbee when it was originally called a Pluto Platter. Missed that.

Been around for a while. Me too.

Owned one, for a while. Me too. A butchered 1873 Win in 32 WCF.
Know where you position it. I learned that from Kirk D's tute some years back. Always wondered why they hurt so much to shoot.
HATE 'em!!!!!!!!! :) Absolutely agree.

Looks good, I would like to shoot one. I like most of the modern remakes of the old guns.

Fine looking gun for sure!
I don't have a 73 any more but have a few 357s & 45s for me the 45s get shot a lot more
than the 357 in revolver or Lever guns, you will like the 45!

I guess I don't know about the recommended way to use a crescent butt plate. Could someone fill me in?

Thanks,

This is the about the best description of the position, I and others have found to be quite comfortable. I even shoot my 1886 in this manner: Crescent Buttstock or not???. The object is to place the toe of the buttplate in the armpit, not into the chest. And why, proper altitude of the elbow helps tremendously!

Here's KirkD's pic from that thread:

I had a Uberti .32-20 73 that I'd had cut back to 16 inches because there was just too much weight out front.
Could not tolerate that crescent, finally sold it.

The Miroku 73s are great rifles, I'd love to have one.
If they'd just do the carbine or shotgun buttstock... :)

I had a Ubertti model 73 in 44-40 for several years. Great working gun but there was so much bling/fancy, that I was embarrassed to take it into the woods.

I first walked away from this one (was sort of waiting for a .357 mag. to come along) left the gun show, started driving home, then made a "U" turn and raced back to buy it.

Thanks for all the comments gang.

Good luck with it.
Ever get tired of the thing, just flatten out that buttplate & call me.... :)
