Anybob a SciFi fan?
I just got done listening to a book called: "We are Legion, we are Bob" about an Engineer/programmer/SciFi geek that, through a series of mishaps, becomes a von Neumann deep space probe immediately before the start of WW-IV, and how he goes about trying to save the rest of humanity (all 15million survivors).
Very detailed, very little "handwavium" tech, really interesting psychology/theory of mind, multiple story lines that diverge and (eventually) converge (as the Bob's spread out to explore and return) etc.
