Walmart Marlin 1895

Post by ethang »

Anybody else pick one up? I had no idea I wanted or needed one till I heard about the clearance sale. Stopped by and while I was asking to see it there was a phone call about it...

$299 + a box of bullets because I can't stand not having ammo for a gun.

Now I will be prepared if we get bears or moose back in Mid Michigan, or if a cloned dinosaur ever gets loose..

Since used Marlins usually sell for more $$$, IMO that's a sweet price to pay to feed your habit...... ;)

I got one. Action is stiff but fit and finish are good. If only it was a straight grip.......

Good luck. I was late to the party and did not expect to find one. Now I have been reading up on the 45/70 all evening.

I was all set to invest in a 44/40 after reading the other thread, now this..

Its supposed to be nationwide but has been going on for a couple days. From what I have read, some Walmarts
have not been notified yet so the clearance pricing is not displayed on the tag or in the scan system, they have
to pull the updates or something from the home office.

If you find one in stock have a manager check out the pricing, some clerks are not bothering to check.

My Auld Achy shoulder agrees with you. I sold all three lever 45-70s. Only one now is a NIB Shiloh that I haven't shot yet.

Update

I have returned from the place that should not be (aka Wally World -- its been literally 2 years since I set foot in one -- not for any social or political reasons -- just that the typical oddball crowd , long lines, plus the drive to the store with the amount of time it usually takes me to get in and out oftentimes has me seeking out smaller venues (actually that sounds almost like the definition of a social reason to avoid Wal Mart --- although I give Sams Club a lot of money --- buying in bulk once every 2 months is more my style )

That said -- the clerk confirmed that , yes ----- both the pistol gripped 1895 Classic and the straight grip 1895G (guide gun) were moving out at 300 bucks ----- I told him to give me one of each and since there was no stock, he had to order them in ----- at which I said "here, -- swipe my card -- take some cash, whatever " -- alas , the 9$ an hour outdoor department honcho did not know how to do a back - order and I have to go back tomorrow between 8 and 4

Nice fella, he sold me a Kershaw assisted open pocket knife anyway, -- but man -- at $300 I can have as many 1895's as I have AR's ! I could leave one sighted in with Hornady flex tips, then another sighted in with stiffer buffalo spec loads
I have a guide gun already but I rarely shoot it as I have its scope dialed in for those 325 grain flex tip boolits, and superstition wont let me mess with something that works too much

------- None of the other 1895 variants were under the same sales protocol --- (stainless models and tricked out ones with laminate stocks, etc. were all retail price)

I hope the day manager can get my name on a couple of them tomorrow :D :D

If priced at there value point they should sell well.
I would even consider one at that price if it looked remotely screwed together correctly. But I have not seen a gun at a wallmart store since I left Wyoming in '95.

For $300 -- I figure if its a little jacked up, its worth sending it back to have them fix it ----

I purchased a youth carbine (short reach , pistol grip stock, 16" barrel ) a couple years ago in 30/30 and it was fine --- very neat gun to ride the range with as its short enough to manipulate inside my jeep if I need to (I haven't had to yet -- we as a collective tend to buy a lot of guns that fit hypothetical niches in our lives though)

At one time, I was searching for a good price on one of those. (Wasn't it called a SpikeHorn?) Like you, I figgered it would be a heck of a truck gun....

Went to the three walmarts in my general vicinity... Only thudy-thudies.
Alas... Well, I want one of the stainless trappers anyway, so no huge loss I guess.

Epilogue for me ---

Denied

Went in to order one from the day manager and he informed me he couldn't get any in as they are now discontinued , (1895 Guide Gun, blue, 1895 standard model blued) -- the price in their books still says 299, but they cant get any --- and he couldn't verify if anyone else in the state had any either (I thought that was easy to check in todays computerized inventory age )

----- If I drove to every Wally World in the state checking, -- economically speaking, the savings would be gone

bummer ----- oh well -- I wanted an 1886 anyway

I will have to make the trip back in again to our local Walmart, and see if they have the Classic 22" barreled model.

Well I guess it meant, I better go look at this gun today on the pretense of carrying Granny Dot birthday shoppin
So the lady went to the back and got it, lookin at it I really did not want it at 568.00 so the next lady came along and told her she scan the wrong bar code, when the correct one was scanned, bingo 299.00 so I own it

By the way wife says lets get the grandson a double deuce, ok we got a Mossberg on sale for 99.99, well put er on layaway, now there's a young man on duty, he scans it, 54.00 so we just went ahead with the purchase seeing how we was goin to put 50.00 on it, so yall might check if your interested in a cheap 22 aut loader
If y'all are interested I'll post pics, but its just a cross bolt safety lever action marlin 45 70 and a black plastic Mossberg 22 auto, but I figure the grandson will be happy
