So I thought I was in good shape

Post by jdad »

I've really been taking care of my self for the last 4 years. I'm 57 and can do 12 dead hang pull ups and up to 15 every once in a while. I can also do a 3 minute plank. 2 minutes straight arm and 1 minute on the elbows. Not bad for having shoulder surgery 4 years ago, to reattach my biceps tendon and a split labrum.

My 84 year old mom just burst my bubble. She hits the gym 5 days a week and does pilates 2x weekly. She just called to brag that she did a 6 minute plank in her pilates class. They switch from straight arm to elbows every 30 seconds.

I sure hope I have her genetics.

I hope you have them, too, friend. I find doing a series of five one-minutes planks tough enough!

I thought I was in pretty good shape when I was 20, before my third shoulder injury , and working the last 45 years. I watched the CrossFit games a few years ago and realized I wouldn't have been in the beginners class in the women's division. things have come along way Baby.

I have lots to do before hunting season begins October 22 and ends November 27, recovering from total hip replacement.... being 60 doesn't make things feel any easier healing

I'm 62 with no issues at all. I can lift 16 pounders full of liquid every 20 minutes.....sometimes carrying an ounce and a half in the other hand. Can carry it all down to the gun room in 60 seconds. Last night I kicked 2 snails off the cement walk out front and (With bare feet) I just lifted 2 dogs from the floor to the couch to sit with me. (Yorkies)--------6

Six you are a wildman! You need to slow down and pace yourself. I'm wore out just reading about it. :D

I thought I was in fair shape until I went with my son to the Six days of Michigan in July. Seven hundred miles of single track in six days on dirt bikes. It about killed me. Apparently having an office job now isn't good conditioning for that.

Aren't health nuts going to feel stupid, laid up in the hospital, dying of "nothing"? I know I ain't in as good as shape as I once was... but, where I used to jump down from the tailgate, I now climb down... and where I used to do several sets of arm curls, I find myself quitting after just two or three.

I thought I was losin' it yesterday, tho'... then I realized they'd just rearranged the stuff at Wal-Mart! :P :P

My job is standing in 1 place for 8 to 12 hours at a time. No breaks, no lunches. If I make a break for the restroom, it must be fast. Drinking or eating anything is limited to the unhealthy choices sold in the store. So much for employee health at the company which is at the corner of happy and healthy.

I was browsing through the channels the other day and settled on an old show, "Expendables 2". Never watched the show before and I came in on it part way through. I say all this cause there is this scene where Stallone, and Jason Stathom are leading the group of old guys up a steep hill. Stallone tells the only young guy in the group (about 25-27) and Iraq war vet, to take lead. He says "roger that" and takes off RUNNING all the way to the top. Strathom looks at Stallone and says "You remember when we used to be able to do that?" Stallone looks at him and says, "No, do you?"

That was the best line of the whole 30 min of show I watched. I laughed out loud. I thought yea I could have done that, for about 30yds. That was a LONG time ago too.

I hate that. Just when you can go to the store, know where all the stuff and find it blindfolded, they rearrange it all around. Makes a two minute shopping trip last twenty minutes.

I'm 66 and packed a dozen long guns all over 10 lbs. and all the accessories up and down my basement stairs twice last weekend! Then into and out of the gun show too! Better workout than I get doing anything else!

Saw a bumper sticker a few weeks back that said something to the effect-

"I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in"

Had to laugh out loud at that. Funny stuff right there
