belt recommendation?

Guys, they just don't make belts like they used to. I'm looking for an all-leather belt that is strong enough to support a concealed carry weapon, comfortable, will last more than a few months - and won't break the bank.

Just this past Thursday I was viewing some videos online and ran across this one: "Carry Systems. While it mainly deals with competition rigs, there's some good insight there on pants belts as they apply to certain gun games.

I was going through Walmart belts about every year, so I bought one from Kirkpatrick Holsters, that was 13 or more years ago. It's just starting to have issues now where the stitching is worn out from the buckle. It could probably be fixed but it's not worth it. I've more than got my money's worth wearing it every day since I got it.

Let a semi-old head educate you on the finer qualities of belt purchasing. (#1......don't buy any commercial junk, no matter how much it costs...that's it.

Dennis Yoder, a custom Amish leather smith, who has now passed over the Great Divide made this for me 15 years ago and I'm sure it will take me when it's time to meet him. It's just under 1 and 3/4" wide and .225 thick......fits snug in jeans and I have no idea how it fits in dress pants because I don't have any of those. Any belt buckle works...it has the standard 2 snaps. My belt buckles usually weigh about a pound and if I forget to bring my gun I can whip off my belt and beat the *** to death with that.

This belt is custom made and I'm sure ANY quality leather maker will make you one up. It costs me $80 15 years ago and at the time, I told Dennis to make me 2, one brown and one black...I have yet to use the black one. Make sure you tell him that you want the heavy duty METAL zipper, not some nylon trash that I have seen on commercial ones. (That's if you want the money belt version......do it...you will like it...in addition to putting money in there, it's a great place to stash a joint or one of those rubbery things. )

I always carry at least a thou. on me as I don't have credit cards and the main reason is I don't want to be caught short on a gun buy. When I travel, I stick 4 g's in it...comfortably.------6

Hopefully I can get this back on track, and away from Six's ankle residing pants ...check out Saddleback Leather's Old Bull Belt. No stitching, just thick leather, and guaranteed for the usual 100 years. Little spendy, but if it lasts the full 100 years not even a buck a year. Bargain!

Being the cheapskate I am, and wanting to keep using my favorite buckle, I usually make my own belts. They last 6-10 years out here where the dry air and sweat is hard on leather. Lots of belt blanks available from Tandy stores (if you can still find them) and virtually any other leather supplier (if you can find them), or online (easy to find). I find leatherwork to be a fun and useful hobby, but I also wouldn't want to discourage you from pursuing any of the great options already presented.

I have a good leather gun belt that is marketed by Mitch Rosen. Been a good all around belt for years.

However, these days I almost exclusively wear a "Rigger's Belt" - a habit I got into because I have needed to rapidly descend down into a steep walled gully on nothing but a rope tied off to my ambulance and having a hookup on a belt that won't break free is a good thing.

Thus far I have never had one roll or otherwise make a holster uncomfortable/unusable.

Another vote for http://www.simplyrugged.com and their "Real Man's Belt". Picked one up back in 2012 and wore it every day. Picked up a bit fancier one last year and it's doing good service too, although it's mostly my "Sunday Go To Meeting" belt as it's nicer than my daily carry belt. Cheap belts are expensive as they don't last, nor do they serve well to hold up a concealed pistol.
