What is your carry .40 S & W ammo?

Through the nineties I've loaded up my Firestar with various things from 135 gr Corbon to Georgia Arms +p 180 Gold Dot. The latter kicks quite a bit.

Once I picked up a bulk carton of ammo marked LE only. It's Speer 165 gr Gold Dot. I think it's the
"Lite LE" since it's pretty soft shooting. It's been totally reliable, accurate, and the bullets I've recovered from dirt, rocks, phone books etc have expanded nastily. I don't if it's the best, but I like it.

Any 170gr flat point FMJ. There was a post here a long time ago about a police shooting in one of the northern states.
The LEOs were using hollow points and the bad guy was wearing heavy winter clothing. The hollow points were expanding in his jacket and only penetrating 1 1/2 inches. After that I quit carrying HPs.
I prefer the flat points because a round nose may deflect around a bone but a flat point will punch out a chunk.
I found some flat point 230gr for the FNX-45 at Cabelas. Winchester makes them in the 1911 line of cartridges.

I carry what my LE Agency carries -- .40S&W Speer Gold Dot 180gr HP -- since I now carry nothing but 9mm I carry our approved load which is -- 9mm Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P HP (same as NYPD)... :)

I don't remember the specific brand, but when I carried a G27 I carried 180gr HPs.

Federal HST is now available to us civilians. That is what is in mine. I assume that if it is able to pass the FBI tests and not overpenetrate either, then it should be good for anything that I am likely to need it for, and much better than I expect to need.

Jacket HP and FMJ's 180grn bullets moving over 1000FPS ought to do anything a handgun was ment to do.

Well, I had to go look. I have 2 .40's, a Firestar that I have not carried in quite a while, and lo and behold it still has Black Talons in it. The box says 180gr SXT. I also have a S&W M&P vtac which I love and carry anytime it is cool enough for a jacket or sport coat. I have gone all modern with it, and am carrying Barnes 140 gr. tacXPD all copper bullets in it. (they do have a black coating so they sorta match the talons) I wanted one of the new ported performance center M&P Shields but have not found one locally yet, they sell as quick as they get in around here. So for now I am carrying a Springfield XDs(.45acp) in warm weather, it hides under a t-shirt easily. God Bless.
