Easter already?
Seeing a post involving the image of a couple of chicks I was surprised to see my local supermarket ready rolling out Easter eggs and easter chocolate bunnies. I guess I should not be surprised, I mean Christmas begins in October.
Some folk believe easter starts after Lent. Mind you the seasonal confectionary has little to do with the festivals true meaning.
Is this typical in the US as well?

My first job after leaving school was at Cadbury's, Bournville and one job I was on was at Easter time, making chocolate Father Christmases...

Blaine, tough to get this crowd to rise.
But back to Kev's question, one should never interpret marketing exploitation as part of the meaning of any holy day, festival, anniversary, etc.
If there is nothing else in sight, marketers will exploit what they can see coming
back to school > halloween > christmas > valentine's day > easter

one thing for certain, Lent follows Mardi Gras, and Easter follows Lent. and we're still a month from Mardi Gras.

Re: Easter already?
I think you are right there is a sequence of festivals to be followed.
This card got me annoyed.
Actually "Easter" from the word oestrogen probably is appropriate.
Perhaps those who wish to celebrate the religious festival as opposed to the egg/ spring festival should use "Paschal"
But when does spring start in the north hemisphere? 20th of March.
Maybe this this should be the day to celebrate jolly bunnies, eggs and chicks.

the whole concept of those cards got me annoyed, even if they tried to get the message right

Re: Easter already?
If you are old enough or of eastern European decent, the 12 days of Christmas began on Christmas eve. That's when you put the tree up and Santa dumped off the presents. As the mall replaced church, Christmas begins the day after Halloween and ends Christmas day. Some European countries celebrate Christmas up until ground hog day. I miss the old days Christmas no longer celebrates the birth of Christ, The new born king is commercialism.

Re: Easter already?
Sad to hear this is now universal. Had hoped only America was practicing the lunacy of starting holidays 4 months early!
