What make & model gun?

Marlin 1894. You can see the lever pivot in the shadow cast
Also looks like a takedown model

Good job, Tom! I blew the photo up and couldn't see anything looking at the rifle. Never noticed the shadow.

I would go with an 1893 Marlin based on the shadow. 94's diddn't have that distinctive curve.

Could very well be a 93. The barrel and mag tube look awful skinny. Receiver looks long enough for a 93.

Yep - Model 1893/93.

It's definitely a long action, and not the short/pistol case action Model 1894/94.

What about the barrel band?

Seems like the 93, half-mags that I can think of (very few, I'm no Marlin expert) have caps like the one in the GI advertisement, not a band like this one.

I'll add that whole forward 1/3 or so of that forearm looks oddly tapered to me.

I tried pullin' in more detail on the action, but, alas... no hammer... It definitely ain't a short action... It "could" be a '73. But not seein' the hammer details, the lines of the receiver and that prominent pivot shadow... I'll go with a TD 1893/93.

Actually, after fiddlin' w/it more... it's lookin' more like a mdl 94 Winchester!!!

It's a Marlin...the case coloring gives that away, and like Tom says, it's a takedown model, half mag. Later on I'll take a pic of a 94 side by side with a 1893. Right now I have to bring wood in and feed the horse before it gets dark. Ain't easy being a white guy with a job and chores.----6

OK, Here's the pic with the 93 on top. The gun in the pic is an 1893 takedown half mag. Yes, I'll take it.

Looks like a Marlin '93 TD to me too, but Brent is right, there's something not right about the forend cap area. Maybe just the light.

forend shape and cap is like the old stevens high power which also has similar lever pivot etc. they arent case hardened however.
