In Norway one is required to qualify each year for their hunting licence. It includes a shooting test. They are required to shoot at a deer target at 100M offhand, sling allowed, and need a 5 shot group within a 30cm (~12").

That doesn't sound at all unreasonable to me. If you don't want to practice enough to be able to hit the animal, then maybe you shouldn't hunt. You might still miss, but it won't be due to lack of practice.

Before I allowed my kids to hunt deer, they had to be able to use a deer-legal cartridge/gun if I recall correctly I required they hit 4 of 5 pop cans at 50 yards, and 4 of 5 times hit the 8" gong at 100 yards. They were seated just like in a deer stand.

I honestly think that a lot of NA hunters would fail this test, quite a few from the bench. A significant number never sight in their rifle!

You've got that right, Bob. Most (but certainly not all) of the hunters I know will check the sight-in of their rifle before hunting. But very very few ever practice from off their hind legs. And without a little off-hand shooting practice you aren't going to pass that Norway test.Canuck Bob wrote:I honestly think that a lot of NA hunters would fail this test, quite a few from the bench. ....and I should really love going to the U.S.A and hunt. Have seen clips on the youtube of people who are hunting with flintlock and percussion rifles. In Sweden this is not allowed to do so....6pt-sika wrote:I would like going to Sweden , Norway or Finland to shoot a moosey !

If you get over this was Stefan, look me up.
I hunt Deer and Wild Hogs with those Flintlock and percussion rifles you mention, and I'm sure I can scare up an extra one for you.

Used to have an internet pal over there that went by the name of 405WIN , he seemed to be a rather big time moose hunter . He was big on the 444 Marlin . He's actually the one that got me started on 400+ grain cast bullets for the 444 .
