Here's a picture from 1922

And here's a link to the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_Maxim

He was writing this in 1916, about his experiences in the late 19th century. Some of the things they were doing would make your jaw drop.

Ah, the things one can/could do/invent when the .gov simply let people alone...

Funny how all that changed with Volstead... then came the NFA... then came... and... and... and...

Try to invent something like that now and you are looking at Fed Prison or death by Ninja Squad.
C2N14... because life is not energetic enough.

My grandmother was a cook for several summers at the Maxim estate in Lake Hopatcong. My father, who was a little boy at the time, often mentioned seeing the one-armed Maxim, and I think his stories had some influence on my interest in firearms. (of course, the fact that Dad was a hunter with more than a passing interest in guns may have had some influence, too...)

The same site also has 'extremist' literature in their Banned Books section, like this everyone-should-read one by Henry David Thoreau; the way our society is going, it may well be banned once again, so read it while you can... :|

That's a great memory!

Mr. Maxim mentioned the accident where he blew his left hand off!
