Need Internet Help!
Been having issues with my Centurylink DSL internet for some time. I'm supposed to have 4gb service, but it's seldom that fast for more than a day or so. I'll notice it operating very slow and run a speed test. It's usually down to 0.8- 1.0 gb or so. All I have to do is power cycle the modem/wireless router and then the speed will be back up to 4gb. This is two or three times a week, if not daily sometimes. I've called them repeatedly about this. They have sent a tech out twice and checked everything at the house and outside the house. The first time the tech said that he found a problem with my service in a box down the road a ways, that didn't fix it. The second tech said there was an extra circuit in the box outside the house that wasn't doing anything that could be slowing it down. Nope, that didn't change anything either. I'm now on my 3rd modem from them, and when I called yesterday, they said they could come and give me a different one, again. There has got to be another issue here, but for some reason they can't seem to find the problem. They power cycle the modem or replace it, and they say "ok it looks good now", but in a couple days it's right back down to slower than dial up speed.

Just about the same thing happened to a bud of mine, two years + ago - The problem finally disappeared (after 2-3 years of gripes) when the drop (wire) to his home was replaced entirely.

Re: Need Internet Help!
I had a issue like that with my DSL service when I signed up with "EarthLink"... finally, after a storm's complete knockout of phone service, they and AT&T had a finger-pointin' contest as WHOSE fault it was I was still down a week after phone service was restored. EarthLink finally admitted that they leased the lines from AT&T and they were still waiting to be notified that the lines were operational...
I went to AT&T and asked when I could have my DSL service back... they said today... and I've been with them ever since... actually at a cost savings!

Re: Need Internet Help!
I'm no computer guru but i had a similar problem when we moved last year. We had been on DSL before the move but that was in town. We are now out in the country and barely have cell service, (spotty at best).
For the computers we went with Hughs Gen4. This is satellite and not as fast as DSL. I knew that early on but it just didn't seem to be as fast as Hughs said it should be (some days better than others). After several tweaks trying to improve it we found out that the Linksys router we were using wasn't all that compatible with the Hughes modem. Hughes suggested we go with a Netgeat Wi-Fi router and it cured the problem.

Not very often, but when the Net goes T/U I unplug all the wired to and from the modem, restart the puter, and usually that resets the modem.....It's all black magic Comcast gets a bad rap, but I've found them helpful...they were even out here once because they detected a "leak" and replaced a cable from the pole to the whatever.....

If you're leasing the modem, insist on an upgraded replacement....if it's yours, try another.Nate Kiowa Jones wrote:Did that a ca-zillion time and it helped for awhile but within days it would go back to slow mo.BlaineG wrote:Not very often, but when the Net goes T/U I unplug all the wired to and from the modem, restart the puter, and usually that resets the modem.....It's all black magic Comcast gets a bad rap, but I've found them helpful...they were even out here once because they detected a "leak" and replaced a cable from the pole to the whatever.....

Re: Need Internet Help!
I have no need to leave my computer running 24/7, so I don't. I have a PC clone made locally, and am running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11. Before I shut it down for the day, I open the "Internet Options" feature, and delete everything, cookies, temporary internet files, history, everything. Then I run a program called Ccleaner I downloaded from http://www.piriform.com/, and again "clean" everything.
My PC runs as fast as the day I got it.
