1911 temptation.

Post by pokey »

It was just to much to resist.
I am a dedicated wheel gun guy, i've have auto chuckers before and sold them all.
my son on the other hand is a fan of all things modern [he wants a glock  ]

so last week we happened to be at sportsman's warehouse and they had a sale on
1911s .

blue , reg 599$ . stainless , reg 649$.

100$ off in store , 100$ factory rebate.

400$ for made in Charlotte N.C. , U.S.A.
para USA. can't even buy used for that.

so far so good. only lost three pieces of brass so far.
at seven yards she's right on the money, at fifty you have to hold a little high.

oh, and a holster i whipped up for it.

My favorite 1911's are Para Ordnances (a P-12 and a P-14).

I don't think anyone could have resisted that temptation!

Now that is a good price. They seem to be good guns too.

I have two Ruger SR1911`s. One standard 5" and one Commander 4 1/4" length.
Ruger calls the SR1911 CMD. There must be a trade mark on the Commander name.
You can load for the ACP almost as cheep as buying .22`s . Lots more fun IMHO.
I bought4 lb. of Red Dot at Sportsmans the other day for $71 . At 5gr. per shot , that`s
5600 shots worth or .012 cents per shot,Primers @$30 K=.030 per shot. Berrys plated bullets @$71 per 500 = .14 cents per shot (most expensive component unless you cast).
total= .182 cents per shot.
I bought .22 LR ammo from Graff & Son a week ago for $61.00 per 500 (delivered) or
12.2 cents per shot. I have almost completely went to centerfire for my plinking fun.

Now when I load for my .454 Casull, that is a different matter altogether but one don`t shoot them that much.

You will be pleased with the PARA. I like 1911 as it was the first issued handgun (1973) and I have carried one almost ever since with a wheel gun required at times. I got a Para as a special deal with 10th Special Forces and qualified with it to carry it for some work as it is a P-14 and was absolutely impressed with its accuracy and feel for a double stack.

I don't know if anyone could be truly happy till he has at least one 1911, the only thing I sometimes don't like with the auto loaders is looking for my empty's.

Considering the age of the basic design, I wouldn't call a 1911 modern. There are wheelguns that were designed after that. I have a Glock, and now a Kel Tec Sub2000 that uses the same caliber and magazines as the Glock. However, once I get either a new slide with Novak sights, or have the slide milled for them, I will probably go back to the 1911 for most things. My 1911 has the original GI style sights that are almost non-existant and I am not able to see then as well as I could a few years ago. My Glock has some more visible sights. I don't have the tools to cut the dovetail myself, and am not sure that I would use them enough to make it worth the purchase. I might just get a Caspian slide with the sights already installed and use a bench vise and some wood blocks for padding to cautiously fit the slide to the frame. Otherwise, the 1911 is as good and reliable as I could ever hope for. I like the Chip McCormick magazines. The only thing mine doesn't like is Gold Dot bullets. They just don't feed. I am not going to mess with the ramp or anything else due to the fact that feeding is perfect with everything else. Hydra-Shok bullets feed perfectly, and do Silvertips. Everything from MagSafe feeds well. At the price you paid, I would have bought that 1911 also. My son might have ended up with one.

Last glock I kicked around I did not like. Even after supposed trigger work, the ergonmics and feel were just meh. The HK in 40s&w, on the other hand, was smooooth. And it better be for $900+

I'd seriously consider that double stack 1911 tho. Can I haz 10mm plz?

Congratulations. I gave in a short while ago and bought a Glock myself. I can see why so many people like them. I got the G19 and it shoots like a match pistol, the recoil is almost nothing.

1. I could not in my 20's.

2. I could not in my 30's.

3. I could or could not in my 40's depending on the day.

4. I could walk away easy in my 50's.

5. Now, in my 70's, I think folks who buy stuff they don't need, just because it is cheap, are a little weak between the ears.
