Buffalo Bore Ammunition

Post by daisygordoninc »

I suppose this subject of Ammo supply has been beaten to death, but it still is mystery to me.
Why can't ammo companies ever get caught up. I'm thinking of Buffalo Bore who manufactures
ammo heavy loads for guns you wouldn't think would take up much market room and yet they
don't seem to be able to keep up at all. What are most people thinking about this whole area
presently, it just seems to go on and on.

He runs into the same problems the rest of us do - the lack of available components. You can't load 'em if you can't get your hands on the powder, primers bullets and cases. The whole system's tapped out with the latest panic buying spree. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next few months as elections heat up. November may bring a respite - or a whole new level of buying frenzy...

Yes, I'm sure Tim has a lot more buying power than you or I do, but he's not Hornady. :D

My LGS in northern NH says this on his website, and told me the same in person the other day when I bought some ammo for a NYC friend, who can't either buy or have ammo sent to him I'm NYC!

LGS: "We now have about 90% of our normal centerfire ammo back, but still can't get any .45LC or 22/250. We are getting small quantities of .22LR almost daily, but not nearly enough to satisfy the current demand. Prices are up about 10-15% ... anything higher than that is simply price gouging. You should not be paying $50 to $100 for a brick of $25 .22 ammo. Do not support the crooks who are taking advantage of the current supply shortages. The amount of hoarding and price gouging is incredible and, until people stop doing this, the situation can not return to anything close to normal."

Hoarding will continue due to the political climate and gouging due to the hoarding and shortages due to both. That is how it is.

There is only so much capacity to build things like primers and brass. Economy of manufacture dictates that if I am manufacturing brass, and I can sell as much .223 and 9mm bras as I can run, I am going to be reluctant to stop running those calibers and set up run .45 Colt and .38-55. There may not be a run on those calibers, but the demand for other calibers uses up the existing components and prevents manufacture of other components.

The ammunition industry is not one that can respond quickly to changes in demand.
