Reloading data needed for 450 Alaskan

Post by Lastmohecken »

Well, I wanted to load up some 350gr Speer Flat points, but couldn't find any locally, I guess I will eventually get some from Mid-south or somewhere. So I bought some 300gr Hollow points Sierra's for the 45/70 which I probably need to work a load up for anyway, because that has always been a pretty good deer load in my 45/70's and should work good in the 450 also but maybe I will load it up a little hotter then factory 45/70's, anyway.

I know I seen a load written down somewhere, for the 300gr bullet in the 450 Alaskan, but I can't seem to locate it now. Does anyone have any data on the 450, other then what is in "Cartridges of the World"? I need to get a Wildcat book or info for the 450.

I worked up to 66gr of 3031 IMR with the 300 today, I figured it would be safe since it seems to be the load for the 350 Flat Point. Recoil seemed mild, but I have little idea as to the speed of the bullet with that load or if It is safe to push harder.
