Poll make your choice of iron sights

Post by Lastmohecken »

Just wondered what everyone used. I have tried several variations, and have a few favorites and a lot I don't like very much.

I am talking mainly about the rear sight, Front sights probaby need their on poll.

I used up all of the options, I wanted to add a few more choices, like the Partrige sight, the old Redfield Receiver sights, that are no longer made, to name a couple. Actually, the old Remington 700 sight wasn't a bad sight.

One of my favorite open sights is the one that came on many Winchester 94 (pre-64) 30/30's.

And I like a good quality British shallow V

I also like some of the receiver sights, mainly Ghost ring type, I don't care for the screw in inserts, even if pretty big. They never look round to my eye for some reason.

Well, now I'm p.o.'d. I clicked on the Lyman Receiver sights and the thing took my vote, but don't show it.

Stupid poll thing.

When I have a choice I'll use the Lyman receiver sights. But the Williams FP comes in almost at a tie.

Although I marked the tang peep, there are firearms that I prefer a full-buckhorn and ones where I prefer the semi-buckhorn. One size does NOT fit all.

I picked Williams receiver sight, but I am not particular about the maker.

I prefer tang sights, on most of my levers, only because it's what I'm used to using for silhouette.

My receiver peep preference would be one of the old Redfields, but that's not a listed choice.

Mine too, when it comes to recevier sights, I like the old Redfields, also.
I had that as a choice, but had to delete it because I had too many choices for the pole to work.

The original sights on my Marlin GS just didn't get it for my old eyes. I went to the XS ghost ring. It works very well. These are now backups for the C-More holo sight.

I hate to admit it, but I have never tried a tang sight. Just mounted one on my Chaparral 1876, so I am eager to give it a whirl.

Wait, scratch that, I was thinking about "traditional" levers. I do like mine on the 1874 Sharps!!! :D

The old Lyman 56 is hard to beat as a receiver sight. I have several guns that carry them and a few that sport early Reddings. Fine mechanics on both.

I choose XS, but I like the williams 5d alright. With XS I really love the front sight, it helps my shooting greatly over the standard tiny bead.

I'm with Griff. One sight doesn't fit all. Depends on what I'm doing.

Hi guys, finally able to log on. No place to vote for Skinner sights. Great hunting sight and supporter of Leverguns.

Except for an 1892 which has a Lyman peep sight ... all my lever rifles have various vendor's vernier rear sights.

Vernier rear sights should be added to the Poll because they are not peep sights by definition

Well.....looks like I am still the only one who voted for the shallow "V" style.

I don't know why though? :?

I have just about all those...... It all depends on the use, but generally a good peep or tang peeper or ghost ring is pretty hard to beat.

Hey Griff, reckon how would a full buckhorn sight work for CAS shooting?I put one on my grandson's 94 30-30 and he really likes it. If retire my old Winchester 92 32-20, I think I'll try a full buckhorn on a new rifle.

I think the flatter versions work best for quick target acquisition. However, several guys swear by tang peep sights. I just think that you're likely to overlook a target or 5 if you leave a blind spot on yer rear sight. But, since I've never tried, I really don't KNOW.

My son used this version on his EMF '92:

and it doesn't seem to cause him any problems. As he consistently beats me nowadays when we're plinking for records in the back pasture.
