Fake or original?

Post by Hombre »

I am sorry for the bad pictures of this powderflask but is it possible to say if it is a fake or an original?
Any opinion at all should be very much appreciated.

If it's from China, it's a Fake. otherwise, it's (probably) a "folk art reproduction"....

The spring and lever appear to be typical of all Italian reproductions.

Unless the images are reversed, the eagle head faces the opposite way from the original posted below.....

There were /are many iterations of that flask, as they was made from the 1840s up into the Civil War, some were made of copper some were made of brass, ...Yours looks like the later version and looks genuine to me... Google Batty Flask... Just by going to images your education will start. Good luck

Thank you very much, all of you, for your opinions.
I really appreciate it.
Could anyone on this forum perhaps recommend a book about American made powder flasks?
Maybe there is no book written yet about this subject, I do not know.
