Lever differences

Post by Mike D. »

I'm enclosing a photo to show the slight differences between the levers of the Winchesters Model 1886 and 71, with the 86 lever at top. About the only major difference is in the finger portion of the lever. The 86 has a longer lever than the 71 and the 71 has a slight bump on the lower curve to accommodate an index finger while cycling the action. I haven't tried to do so, but I'll wager that the two are interchangeable.

JMO - but, unless it's the pic/my eyes, the top rear contours look different between to two, and also the upper crosspin holes look to be differently placed.
