Beutiful moon over a beautifull back ground. But I thought a "blue moon" was the second moon in a month that has two full moons.

Last full moon was the 22nd of July. I've never seen a "blue" except when a full is on the 1st or 2nd and the blue was on the last day of the month or maybe the next to the last if the first was on the 1st. They come 29 and a fraction days apart. Exceptionaly pretty moon but not a "blue".

Gorgeous photo.
We had a knockout blood red moonset very early the other evening.
I'll bring it up again, though it's been accused as a cult on this board, but Dr. Larson's astronomy research showed there was a blood moonrise in Jerusalem when Christ was on the cross.

My mistake. It was called a blue moon, but, here is the reason:

Last time I set eyes on Mt. Rainier was (gulp, how time flies) 7 years ago, when we took our last big trip together on the bike. She had troubles with her back and shoulder on that trip and they're worse now...don't know if we could make it through a long day's ride together now.
Not nearly as cool a picture, but here's looking back from one of the pullouts as we climbed towards the pass on 12 eastbound towards Yakima and started heading home.

I've got that same picture, but, different bike 8) 8) .....Rt 12 is one of my favorite rides.....I'll go down Rt 410 east to Yakima, and back west on 12.....a nice full day ride and I never get tired of it. When I go for my next trip, I want to take 12 all the way into Missoula, MT....I haven't seen that part of 12 yet.

It was a blue moon:

Using the Maine Farmers' Almanac definition of blue moon (meaning the third full moon in a season of four full moons, and where the seasons are marked by equal 3 month intervals between solstices and equinoxes as opposed to calendar quarters), blue moons have occurred or will occur on

Yup, did some more study and Harry is right; by the older of the definitions, it is a blue moon. Although the newer definition is of a second in a month, I'll concede to the definition that has the longer history attached to it. It's a blue moon

The news made a big thing of that in the East and my wife looked outside and said, "it don't look blue, it looks gray". I told her the gray was smoke from all of the gunfire in the "hoods of Philly".----------------6
