J Miller, recovery progress report

Post by J Miller »

Well, last Monday I had the last anti-biotic infusion at the out patient clinic. Then afterwords I had blood taken for a work up and a CT Scan of my lower back and the innerds.

Tuesday the results were in. I'm recovered enough that there will be no more IV anti-bios. Whoo-Hooo!!!!!!!!
The infusion clinic got the orders to pull the PICT lines out my arm. Oh THANK GOD!!!! I am soooo relieved.

I'm still having trouble walking. My right leg and lower back muscles are very week, and my right shoulder may have damaged rotator cuff parts. Or what ever those things are. Dr made some comments but I can't totally remember what he said. I have an apt with a therapist next Tuesday.
Not sure I'm gonna keep it though.
Been doing my own therapy by cranking on a Singer 99K hand crank machine. Wonderful exercise that is not overly taxing on the aching parts.
Oh, what is a Singer 99 K HC machine. Well it's this:
Rusty with HC a.JPG
I named him Rusty because he came to me as a flood victim. I cleaned out mud, grass, and tons of rust as I refurbed him. Had to replace some parts, but saved many of them.

Very good therapy for my shoulder and he sews good too.

I do need a cane for some additional support, but we are flat broke and are waiting for financial assistance from the hospital. Praying that it comes through. If not it will mean we file bankruptcy. We just do not have the huge funds to pay for this.

Anyway, I'm on the mend, but it's gonna take a bunch of time. And sadly as much as I want to go shooting on my birthday, I couldn't even pick up a pistol with my right arm let alone shoot one. And as for shooting a rifle ......... not a chance.

Well, that's the update.

Thanks for all your prayers, we do appreciate them.

Joe

Glad to hear of the improvement!

Please reconsider the PT, though. They may push you in directions you are not aware of missing. "Use it or lose it" is real.

Get healthy, Joe.....Improvise or borrow some light weights and work out and stretch with them...go walking as much as you can....You're still real young, so don't let this be the beginning of the end, please. :D

I'll keep you in my prayers Joe but like the others, I hope you reconsider the PT. I had ACL/MCL surgery about 7-8 years ago. I thought I was good to go but still went to the physical therapy. They got me farther than I would have on my own and I think the recovery time was shorter due to their working with me. They will push you farther than you will ever push yourself (I know from personal experiance).

I haven't progressed to making clothing yet. And Kilts never entered my mind. Something to think about though. Definitely a nitch market.

OK, you've convinced me, I'll go see the therapist. He/she might find something else wrong or like you've said they might help me get back to functional condition.

Blaine,

No offense meant to those who wear them, but I wouldn't wear a kilt if I had a great physique.

Just not my thing.

I am still praying for your continued recovery. I have been doing some very basic exercises for my rotator cuff and it is really helping. Best wishes from Calgary.

I need an address Joe. I know I don't post here very often but I lurk a lot. My Dad used a cane for several years and has amassed quite a few of them. He has now progressed to a wheelchair now and no longer uses them. I will be visiting him over labor Day weekend and can send you a few for free.

Please pm me your address and I will make it happen.

Godspeed and prayers on your continued recovery.

P.S. He lives in Mesa, AZ. Trailers are cheap there in the park.

the only problem I can foresee with a "tactical kilt" is when you might have to bend over to either handcuff a perp, or when you start gutting a deer, that might be a sight that nobody is prepared for, on the other hand if you're a seasoned veteran... :)

30WCF,

Any person with the personality to wear a kilt is one I'd never make disparaging remarks about. I do not like pain, can't fight, can't run away, so I'd have to be nice.

I would hope that anyone wearing a kilt would at least wear underwear, there is just something about the other way that my minds eyes don't want to see. :o

Joe!!!!!!! Go do your physical therapy (PT)!!!!!!! That's going to help you recover. If you don't build back up your muscles and muscle skills, you'll be a cripple all your life.

You're not a stupid man Joe but missing your PT would be a stupid thing to do.

Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery.

I'm sure you'll find it beneficial Joe. My older brother recently suffered a stroke that affected both his speech and mobility. With therapy he is coming good.
