Local dealer calling it quits!

Post by Chuck 100 yd »

My friend and local gun dealer closes his doors for the last time next Saturday.
L&L Guns in Battle Ground WA has been my go to place for close to 20 years.
He just wanted to RETIRE and has been talking about it now for at least 5 years.
I hope you enjoy your retirement friend! I will miss you!.

Sad to hear that, the old good ones r slowly retiring. One of My favorite shops is wanting to call it quits, He is in His 80s. He keeps trying to get Me to Buy Him out. I'm not sure about the Gun climate anymore.

Wife told my local owner to quit fighting the BBGS like Cabela's. He's gone end of September. No skin off my teeth as he did not give good customer service to me--only one person's opoinion. I still have mom/pop owner about 1 hr. away that I choose over BBGS.

Went thru the same thing several times over the years. The last was the hardest as the fellow owning the shop had owned it since just after WWII and it closed when he passed. He had good employees, it could have gone on, but the family squabbles caused it's end.

Your loss though sad, is still for the good as the gentleman is retiring. We all want to just quit working some day. I'm glad he got the opportunity.

The owner of one of the local candy stores here passed away a couple years ago. He was the gunsmith that all the local gun stores went to. Had been in business 28 years. His family tried to run the store for awhile, but they just didn't have the same traffic without having a gunsmith on site. Plus, it is hard for some smaller stores to get guns and ammo to actually sell, so people stop coming in if there is nothing to buy time after time.

Pete44ru , I wish I could do that but I am just getting into the retired thing myself.
He moved into this vacant rural bank building a couple years back and I am sure he just rents it so all there is to sell is the inventory. You cant transfer the FFL.
The bank building is cool though with the huge walk in vault he just rolled all the display cases in at night and back out the next day and the steel shutters automatically cover the windows at the flip of a switch. COOL SETUP for sure. AC/heat and its own parking lot and duck pond. :D

There was a great little shop here in our town that always had, or could get whatever I needed.

The very same year I moved back here (something I thought I'd NEVER do) they decided to retire!

It's a crummy antique shop now!!!

It ain't just the 'gun' businesses - folks able to retire are getting out of the over-regulated, over-taxed business world as soon as they are able.

The younger folks won't know what "retire" even means; few people under the age of 50 now will likely be able to do that, because the socialists are destroying every vestige of free enterprise and security with wild abandon. The only ones who could have stopped it at the ballot-box or soap-box level are the ones dying or retiring now; the younger ones don't know any better anyhow.

The biggest gun dealer/store in or town closed because of the wife's illness. They just couldn't keep it going what with the care she needed, out of town doctors visits, and the fact that we have no Hospice in our town.

The lone sporting goods store in town has drastically reduced his inventory of rifles and no longer sells handguns of any kind. Most of the rifles he has in stock now are used (on consignment); however, he will order a new one for you if you ask.

My other bud who owns Miller's Sporting Goods is also calling it quits at the end of the year. He's pushing 60 and told me he made more money in the last 5 years than he did in the previous 20. Good for him.....he thanks the monkey in Wash. everyday for an early retirement.

The big problem with someone taking over a gun business from someone else is the "connections". Most old heads took many years to get to know the distributors and this enabled them to get what they wanted when they wanted. Here in the East, the gun business is very competitive and if you want to stay in business, "its who you know".---------6
