Does anyone know what type of rod I would use to weld a flaw in a post '64 Winchester 94 Receiver? Or where about's to go to get an answer?

The softer the better Griff, as it will harden when heated to weld. I use coat hanger with good results, but mild steel with a TIG works well.
If you're gping to use rod as in a stick welder, I'd advise rethinking it. Best to TIG weld it.-Vall

Griff,

I don't have any personal knowledge of welding.

I was going to suggest contacting Cosby Custom Guns
{ http://www.cosbycustomguns.com/index.asp }, but they been hacked by JaCKal & BaCKDooR.

So maybe try

He's the one that did SteveB's 1886 remarking and bluing.

Mike did this one too, Joe. It has an excellent filler weld of the rediculous tang safety slot. You'd never know it was there.

Joe & Mike, I had talked with Colt1849 and IIRC he said he stays away from the post '64 sintered steel receivers.

Val, have you done this with a Post '64? I have a guy that's willing to TIG the small repair needed, (weld up a screw hole that has become enlongated so I can redrill and tap.) But, he really wants to know what type of fill to use. Certainly don't need the surrounding metal to become brittle or....?

Griff,

Where is the screw hole? Would it be possible to go up one size, make a plug, then D&T the plug for the original size?

Tis actually two, the link and carrier. Both holes on the right side have been peened. ?The link so much so that the hole has migrated rearwarrd & downward. Needs a little filling in also! Mucho malo.
