Levergun Collection (photos)
Well folks, I haven't been to the range for more than a month and cabin fever is setting in. I figured I'd put another coat of Conservator's Wax on some of my old Winchesters this afternoon. While doing that, I thought I'd take a quick photo of my entire levergun collection which has grown smaller recently, due to the fact that I've sold a couple to save up some cash for a really nice addition that may come along soon. Other fellows should feel free to post photos of some of their leverguns in this thread as well. It will help us pass the time until the weather warms up a bit.
From top to bottom:
Winchester Model 1886 45-70 with full octagon barrel. Received in the Winchester Warehouse July 1, 1890
Winchester Model 1894 38-55 with full octagon barrel. Received in the Winchester Warehouse June 9 1897
Winchester Model 1873 44-40 with round barrel. Received in the Winchester Warehouse August 1, 1889
Winchester Model 53 32-20 with upgraded wood. Barrel date, 1929
Winchester Model 94 30-30 ('Old Savage'). Barrel date, 1954
Browning Model 1886 Saddle Ring Carbine 45-70
The cartridges are arranged in the same order.
The Browning is the only modern lever gun in the lot, but it is such a fine rifle, I just can't part with it. I dropped a nice 300 pound Whitetail Buck with it about 20 years ago .... one shot, dropped on the spot.

I've been reducing the quantity of my old Winchesters, but the average value of the pieces in my small collection has increased. There were just too many to shoot.pwl44m wrote:Maybe I should sell off some of My junk and get some quality pieces such as Yours.

Great collection. seems to me you should have an old Winchester .22. I suppose the Browning makes a 9422 legal.

Pitchy, that is a lovely looking collection. That half octagon Model 1894 is a beaut. I really like button mags. I think it is a 38-55 if I recall?

Re: Levergun Collection (photos)
Stefan, I sold it last month. I absolutely hated to do it, but I had an opportunity to get my hands on a 95% condition original Model 1873 and those don't come cheap. Unfortunately, since I sold it, the seller has not responded to my phone messages, so I'm getting worried that I parted with my 38-72 too fast.Hombre wrote:Beautiful rifles, Kirk, but where is the Winchester mod. 1895 in caliber.38-72 WCF?

Nath, I still got that old SxS for sure! I've been waiting until a friend of mine comes over who is an emergency first responder before I pull the trigger. Well ..... not really. The truth is that I've been so busy shooting my old leverguns that I have only loaded one round for the 12 & 1/2" and it is still awaiting a chance to get fired.Nath wrote:Excellent photo's men

Re: Levergun Collection (photos)
Been busy for awhile but this is sure a dandy thread.
However isn't there a rule somewhere about tempting your neighbour to covet your lever collection? If not maybe there should be one!
I know I'm preaching to the choir around here but is there really a more perfect rifle than an iron sighted lever action? The next would be a scoped one, then everything else. I might be a bit biased but it still seems simple common sense to me.

What nice collections. Here is mine.
It warms my heart to see all of the levers that we all collect, and there is nothing like placing them in your hands! You can almost feel the history.
My lever collection is composed of mostly 1892's, almost all with button magazines. I have a smattering of 73's, 94's, and pumps (90's and 06's).It warms my heart to see all of the levers that we all collect, and there is nothing like placing them in your hands! You can almost feel the history.
