A local shop here in Northern California just sold a new-in-box Browning 53 for $1,200. It had been on their rack for over a year before being sold, so I would say that was an absolute maximum price. Gunbroker lists them around $1,000-$1,100, and a few do sell at that price, but it will still cost you $1,200 with paperwork and shipping.

If you really want one, $1,200 is not unreasonable, as that is close to what an Italian Winchester would cost. My Miroku-built Browning 53 is a much better quality rifle than any Italian Winchester I have seen. I bought it new when they first came out in the nineties, and I believe it cost me around $725 then.

These are wonderful rifles. I bought mine new and looked at a few before I found one with the wood I wanted. The Browning finish was replaced with oil.

My opinion? For an NIB, maximum 8. There's a fair amount of nice originals out there for 12-15

Okay, $800-1200 is range so far, that's a huge spread.Still pondering, but I guess $1300 is too much. Problem is, it's only the third one I've seen in 5 years. One NIB for $1900 and one with a scratch on receiver which I put a tang sight on and enjoy :D , for $750, and thought I got a good deal a few years ago.

Mr. Big Bear,
I say $800 because I can get one most anytime I want. It may take me a month but I'll find one. This is S.E. Pa. :D

Now, on to your problem. If you really want one, don't fret about the bucks. If you have it to spend, spend it. Don't let a couple of hundred bucks stand in your quest for happiness as life is short and the guy who dies with the most toys is the winner. :D -----------------Sixgun

Probably around the time flush toilets became fashionable.
