Hello from Central Indiana

Post by vedearduff »

Hello the camp.

I recently found, and joined, this fine outfit. Hope I don't lower the standard too badly.

I have a Uberti '73 short rifle in .44WCF and greatly enjoy shooting it. I picked it up for CAS and have done most of my shooting with NCOWS groups.

Here are a pair of pictures.

I've had this rifle since the fall of 1996 and most of my shooting has been BP hand loads. My loads consist of a compressed charge of GOEX 3f behind a 200gr RNFP.

I found this site while doing some research into which '92 would be my best option for a all purpose rifle. It will probably not see much use as a CAS rifle, it's a bit late for the period I portray.

I have revolvers in both .45 Colt and .44WCF. I'm undecided which to go with for the '92, I'll likely end up with one in each.

From what I've read on this forum, I suspect I'll end up with a Rossi or three (or more).

Shoot straight.

Welcome - we may be neighbors!

If you want an all-purpose 92 levergun - check mine out. The sights are on a QD-mount, although I've never seen a reason to remove them (they work daytime, dusk, or in pitch-black); the 'light' I leave on, but quickly take off if one of my 'traditional' levergun friends comes by - I'd hate to stress them out by seeing what happens when a levergun and an AR-15 are cross-pollinated... I've got a couple others for when I want to be 'authentic', but this is the one I grab if I hear squawking in the chicken pen, or coyotes in the goat pasture.

Image and Welcome to the Forum. Excellent 1st post; and with pictures no less!

Doc, that's ALMOST :P an "ALL Purpose" levergun, but he clearly is a cowboy action shooter, & those sights/attachments make it wholly unsuitable for THAT purpose!

Although, not acceptable as a main match rifle, it is suitable for long range side events of moderately long range. Over its 117 year history it's proven its relative popularity; it doesn't require a 3 income family to feed it; and lastly, but certainly not least among its many virtues, it can outstandingly beautiful... able to hold it's own against far more expensive and exotic leverguns. I speak of the Winchester mdl 94 Trapper! :D :D :D

Thanks, all of you, for the warm welcome. It looks like I have found a great place for gun talk in general and levergun talk in particular.

AJMD429, that is an interesting take on a "Ranch Rifle". I'm about 45 minutes NE of Indy, how close are we to being neighbors?

I'm still undecided between getting another .44WCF or getting a .45 Colt. I'm looking for a good, used, Rossi '92 rifle or short rifle. I'm thinking used so that I can avoid the lawyer wingnut on the bolt. I'll be ordering Steves CD and kit.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.
