That's a typical reaction, however they are counter-intuitive when it comes to safety. Unlike a fixed wing, it cannot stall, and unlike a helicopter, it is ALWAYS in auto-rotation, and will simply glide to a relatively smooth landing with power off. Since it has no tail rotor, but a regular tail, it remains steerable all the way in... The only potential catastrophic (very rare) failure would be a rotor or rotor bearing failure. Even power off I see these guys land em like a feather in a few feet of space.

I see a used one in decent shape for $4k, and man am I tempted. A 10,000 ft ceiling and 80 MPH potential in a bird light enough to qualify as an ultralight with an hour of range...... Gotta love it.

Jack if you're still hanging around Fla you should know that the Sun n' Fun fly in is coming up real soon in Lakeland. I just checked the web site, this year it will be March 27-April 1. http://www.sun-n-fun.org/

They'll have whole sections of everything you can imagine.

I LOVE Gyros in general but being the old fanny burp that I am I especially like the nostalgic design and lines of the puller (tractor) PitBull.

Hmm, I think James Bond. Didn't he shoot one down with an AR-7?

You don't need to shoot it down. Just like in WWI dogfight days all you have to do is hit the pilot.

I want one too. It would be just the thing out here in WY.

No, as I recall, there was a smoke trail as it went over the hill, followed by a fireball. Pretty much equals a Hollywood shoot down.

Actually James Bond flew a autogyro "Little Nellie" armed with rockets and machine guns in "You Only Live Twice" filmed in Japan shooting down enemy helicopters during a dogfight.

Okay, in which movie did he run around with the AR-7 in a brief case and shoot down some sort of aircraft with it?

The only James Bond movie I recall that featured a AR-7 was "From Russia with Love" and I believe he did used his AR-7 to shoot a helicopter pilot.

That might be fun up north, but with all the alligators and other "bitey" stuff they got here in FL, nothing with an air mattress bottom for me, thanks.

That movie was the only time anybody ever made a precision shot with an AR-7, and they had to have 14 editors to do that, :)

That thing looks like fun even though I'm not crazy about heights. The only problem I see is that it would be hard to fly that thing and shoot pigs at the same time (recently legalized in TX). I would be real interested in a two seater version........
