I didn't pay him no mind. You were there.

I didn't surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet.

This Mr. Wales is a cold-blooded killer. He's from Missouri, where they're all known to be killers of innocent men, women and children.

I watched Quigley the other night in honor of Selleck's birthday.
A real class movie. Polodorous' soundtrack paid homage to Copeland.

And of course back to Josie Wales - it was the movie every spaghetti western aspired to be.

Ten Bears: These things you say we will have, we already have.

Josey Wales: That's true. I ain't promising you nothing extra. I'm just giving you life and you're giving me life. And I'm saying that men can live together without butchering one another.

Ten Bears: It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life.

Funny thing is, most of those lines sound like classic Clint Eastwood, but they're straight out of the book. Except the part about stains...the snakeoil salesman was a Hollywood addition.

Vance nailed it. For you guys who love this movie (like me!) you've got to get your hands on the book that it's based on. The book is by Forrest Carter, and is actually two books in one. My copy is simply titled Josey Wales. Get your hands on this classic. It's a safe bet that everybody here will love this book. - DixieBoy

"You'll find em up in Kansas, they are with the Union, and we are gonna go up there and set things right" One of my personal heros, William "Bloody Bill" Anderson. If you have this on Blu Ray, be sure to watch the "making of" featurette, interviews with all of the stars, and be sure to read the book, it is as captivating as the movie. This is a good movie about the Guerilla Conferderate Fighters, The only one better is the Blu Ray version of "Ride With The Devil" DEO VINDICE

Hmm... I wonder if you have a combined book. What I read was "Gone to Texas," pretty much the movie. I later read the "Vengeance Trail of the Outlaw Josey Wales," about him going to Mexico to avenge a wrong. Neither are G-rated, so read them before deciding to let Junior read them.

Until I read the book, i had no idea Josey and party came right through my neck of the woods. If I remember right, the "pull them guns or whistle Dixie" event happened in Fannin County, TX. Your memory may vary.

vance - I bought the book after seeing Josey Wales, the movie, years ago. It is titled "Josey Wales" and on the cover it also states "Two Westerns by Forrest Carter, Gone to Texas and The Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales."

I'm guessing that after the popularity of the movie, the publishers had a lot of interest in Josey Wales, and combined the stories.

Without a doubt, the author is a southern partisan, and that's fine with me - so am I ! His writing style is great for those who don't read very much; he wrote one of the few "page turners" of western books that I've come across. And, while Josey Wales (the story) is clearly fiction, his historical background is spot on. Just great stuff. - DixieBoy
