Help on a Whitneyville-Kennedy (Pics added)

Post by TX50Cal »

My buddy owns a gunshop and bought quite a few guns from an individual. One of the rifles is a Whitneyville-Kennedy 44wcf. octagon bbl in very nice condition. Bluing is starting to fade on the receiver and there is some pitting on the loading gate but the rest of the rifle looks really good. I am going to take some pictures next time I go to his shop and will post them as soon as I can. Does anyone have any info they can share about this rifle? Value? Collectability? I am going to put it for sale when I can get some info.
Thanks in advance.

I have no idea, but looking forward to the pictures. Maybe someone else can help.

S loop or regular finger lever? Condition commands price. Good shape, good bore, S loop...$1800.00

What I do know is that I bid 22 c-notes on one last week and lost it. It went for 28. It was worth a good 35. Condition was 75-85% with slight rust and nice wood.---------Sixgun

Here are a few pics. little pitting on the loading gate and on the end of the magazine tube. sliver of wood missing from the forearm.Rest of the gun looks very good. He has decided to to sell it for $2400. Does this sound reasonable?

Pretty clean for only $2400. Nice rifle.

Could just be the pics, but it looks like the metal doesn't match the wood.

I think it's just the way the pictures came out. Wish my camera was a little better.

Has it been reblued?

Owner does not believe it has been reblued. All the lettering is still there and no rounded edges.

It does look to have been cold blued. Wood appears to have been sanded and refinished. Depending on how nice the bore is I would guess $1100-$1400.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I really like that rifle, but from the pictures, it does look like the metal is refinished and the wood looks like it either shrank or was heavily sanded and refinished at some time. Looks like a shooter to me.
Have you hugged your rifle today?
