EMF- Polish/brighten front bead- how to do it?

Post by 1x2 »

Howdy,

I've got an EMF in .44 magnum, 24" octagon bbl. with bead front, semi-buckhorn rear sight. The front bead "appears" to be gold or brass, but try as I have, I cannot get it bright enough to spot from the other end of the barrel!

Any ideas on how to get this sucker to shine?

Thanks,

What methods have you tried? Crocus cloth? Brasso? Never Dull?
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hi Pepe Ray,

Good point- funny thing about open sights, that way. If the sun's on your left, it strikes the outside left of the front sight, pushing your aim to the right, and strikes the inside right side of the rear sight, pushing your aim to the left. They virtually counteract each other; the trick is to be aware of which is in the sun and which isn't, when you're taking a shot from in the woods.

Hi Hobie!

I belabored the obvious with Hoppe's No. 9, just to see if it would work. Then tried NeverDull, then Flitz (says it's great for tumbling brass). I just can't get it to "stick out" like the Marlin beads I'm used to  .
