Rodeo.. All of his grear is twisted around, so the camera can get a good shot. I do note that is pretty tame, as he is wearing a wedding band. Not to usual in those days.

Is that RR7 in his younger days with a 'stache??? :D

Fella looks comfortable in his clothes. Knife and pistol moved around front for the picture. Aside from the traveling background, looks like someone that has at least a little experience with the outdoors.

What interests me about the photo is the content. This is likely, since it is likely a "dude" to be the "best" available. Is that a Colt Lightning or Thunderer revolver? He has the rifle, not carbine, and is that a ROUND barrel rather than the more common octagonal barrel? What a neat sheath for that small bowie. Is that decorative stitching in the boots? Notice the mustache and hair length.

It looks like it to me. As somebody else pointed out, another sign that he's financially well off.

He looks comfortable in the clothes. The boots fit, the trousers and the jacket are the right size.

He may not be fresh off the trail, but I think he's been on it.

Looks like a reg'lar guy gettin' his picture took.

Maybe recollectin' his glory days.

I'm always a bit suspicious when there's no cartridges in the loops, I'd guess its at least not his guns and rig. His loops are upside down from the way most use them also. Good picture tho.

For studio clothes they sure do fit good, look at the way the boots fit his feet in front of the heel, they fit like a pair of handmade boots. Probably not a 30 dollar a month cowhand, wearing those boots.

I thought the same thing. To me it looks like he is holding a pencil. His hands look too soft to me to have spent much time doing real work.

The boots don't lie, they were made for him. The outfit makes me think he probably was with an "Wild West Show" some where. There were hundreds of them traveling all over the USA during the time this photo was taken. I would say the rifle is his, but the knife and Colt are not. No one in there right mind would put the cartridge belt upside down if he was familiar with it. That's just my 2 cents. :)

Rangerider7 ya might like this one, Texas Rangers, company D.
Standing second from the left is outlaw Bass latter killed in a gun fight.
Also notice the similar knives and sheaths some of the rangers are wearing compared to your first picture.
There are a few more ranger pics in the book if you`d like to see them.

Pitchy, yes I'm very familiar with the Texas Ranger photo. A friend of mind wrote the biography of Walter Durbin, the ranger seated 3rd from the right. All those rangers had interesting, some tragic, stories. Many of them are in a book titled "Texas Ranger Sketches" also written by Robert Stephens.
