Why my recent absence...

Post by Hobie »

I want to apologize for being so removed from the forum since Friday evening. It seems that the spammers and others have tried to take advantage while I've been gone and I'm sorry that you had to put up with that.

I've been pretty busy. My mother passed away Saturday morning due to Alzheimer's. I'm sure many of you would have liked her. She camped, canoed, swam, sang, played piano and the organ, made furniture, spun/wove/dyed wool & other fibers, was an amateur archaeologist (past Secretary of the Archaeological Society of Virginia), was a camera buff from age 9 or so, had been a hiker and spelunker (caver), was a librarian, title researcher, cave guide, and had owned her own business. She made friends wherever she went from the coal mines of West Virginia to the halls of academia. Despite today's cold chill, stiff breezes and snow flurries her immediate family, many of those friends, past employers, employees, and caregivers came and stood out in the cold (many wearing items she'd knitted or woven and sewn) to see her off. The graveside service was conducted by Reverend Merle Dodson of Middlebrook Church, Middlebrook, VA.

To those local friends who knew and have already expressed their condolences, again, thank you.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I've enjoyed knowing her son. You have been kind to me and have shared your knowledge. She apparently passed on her love of the unkown and the outdoors to you. I'm truly sorry and I will pray for you and your family.

Condolences from PA. I'll pray for your mother, you and your family during these sad days. With all those interests I would bet that Mom still had thoughts of other roads to travel before the Alzheimer's took control.

I am deeply sorry for her passing and I rejoice she has gone to the Lord. I envy her for that. She sounds like a wonderful woman, and by the son she has raised, I'm sure I'm correct in that. Blessings to you and may the years of wonderful memories fill your heart of sorrow.
