I'm 99% sure this was covered on the old board but that was then, the "One Sticky" doesn't cover this and I haven't been able to pull anything up here using the search function so here goes...
What is the "correct" precedure to do this? A steel shaft the same diameter as the safety only shorter but still long enough to mount the case head so it's flush with the receiver?
Thanks!
Replacing Marlin Crossbolt safety with case head, how?

Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits.

I believe you are thinking of a Winchester 94 crossbolt safety plug since the Winchesters leave a sizable crater (navel) on right side of receiver which fits a cartridge head nicely.

On the Marlin which has a much less obtrusive safety without a rebounding hammer and with a halfcock all that is need is the kit mentioned on the link:

Since the Marlin does not have the ugly "belly button" recessed area for the crossbolt, the case head would be surface mounted rather than flush.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Yeah, I thought of that after I went to bed last night.Tycer wrote:Since the Marlin does not have the ugly "belly button" recessed area for the crossbolt, the case head would be surface mounted rather than flush.
I saw the Marlin replacement but I want a case head, not a screw. I suppose I could affix the case head to the side after installation.
I have nothing against the safety (ducks and covers), I just wanted something cool and diff'enrt.
Thanks!

If you're stuck on a case head, then save yourself some money! Simply remove the buttstock and lock the safety in the center position, then cut the rim off a case and epoxy it over the safety. That way you can simply apply some heat to the case with a soldering iron, if you ever want to remove it. Almost free to do it this way!
