The best day of the year
It’s the last week of December ’07, my Son, Daughter-in-law and three grandchildren are here for the annual Christmas visit. We have two late season doe tags to fill, and the venison supply is low.
The grandsons are outdoors people, both fish a lot, and have been duck and rabbit hunting with their Dad a lot of times.
My son and I split up into two teams. He is with the 9 year-old, Connor, and I’m teamed up with 7 year-old Ethan. They are the “Mauserâ€

In the last year or so I've read many stories from forum members of hunting and shooting trips with their grand kids. Very nice k8bor, and congrats on the successful, in every way, hunt.
I think there's hope for us yet.

Dave, you will truly live forever. I picture Ethan telling his kids or his grandkids about the time he sat in a blind with his grandpa. You know the story just has to get better with each telling!

the legacy of hunting
Sir, I'm absolutely overcome with a smile from ear to ear for you and your family!! Congrats! I know this much.... after taking my son in law hunting and having him harvest his FIRST deer 5 yrs ago while hunting with me... The fact that My 3 yr old granddaughter now can say "Pops whacked a Big one" holds a very special place in my mind and heart. Thank you so much for sharing this special time for you and your family!

k8bor,that sure does make an old grampa feel good to hear you tell of your hunt.A few years ago I sat with my oldest grandson when he dropped his first deer, a big doe with my Kentucky rifle. Back in another time, the early 1950's my family deer hunted and trout fished on the Manistee River west of Grayling.Beautiful northwoods country.I shot my first deer there with a 94 .32spl

The only way it could be better would be if he then held up the Marlin that did the deed in his grandpas hands & show it off to his grandkids. A nice worn patina on the metal & oil stains on the stock from being used for over half a century.don Tomás wrote:Dave, you will truly live forever.
