Winchester 94 question- rebounding hammer and angle eject?

Post by nralover »

What year did Winchester begin implementing the angle eject feature and the rebounding hammer? Also, is there any reason that a non angle eject rifle could not be tapped for a receiver sight?

IIRC, it was either 1983 or 1988, but I'm gettin' CRS.

Any gun can be D/T'd for a side mount peep, but why ?

The D/T just adds more holes, and there's already peeps that utilize the issue scope mount holes.

Unless the gun's a Trapper, it'll need a higher front sight blade with any peep, top or side mount, anyway.

Thanks for the reply- I am looking at a 1971 94, and I thought it wasn't drilled and tapped, but I guess I am mistaken...

Here's a time line for you:

Rebounding hammer introduced 1981
Angle Eject introduced 1983
.45 Colt Trapper model introduced 1985
Hammers drilled and tapped for offset extension introduced 1986
Bull barrels introduced for Trappers 1991
Link pin retaining screw returns in 1991
Cross bolt safety introduced 1992
Tang safety introduced 2004
Mdl 94, 70 and 1300 discontinued March 2006

All Winchester 94's from 1952/53 up until the AE's were introduced were drilled and tapped for side mount receiver sights.
The AE models can be drilled and tapped for the side mount receiver sights, and the TE models can be drilled and tapped for the top mount receiver sights if you want.

I guess I missed the 1981 change to rebounding hammers, I thought it started with the angle eject model.
