Pointy Bullets In A .218 Bee

Are pointy bullets a bad idea in a .218 Bee. With almost no recoil, I was just wondering.........(Flame Suit On )

Me personally? I wouldn't use pointy bullets in any tubular magazine centerfire - regardless of how little it recoils.

NoSir...I would never call you that.... I suspect that if you wanted a flamethrower varmit load, you could load them one or two at a time....... I haven't even SEEN my new Bee yet, I'm just getting excited aout it..... Do you know anyplace that sells commercialy made .22 hardcast? There do not seem to be any at Lasercast or Cast Performance

Spitzer bullets really don't offer any advantage in the 218 Bee, especially when using the Marlin, as it is a 175-yard cartridge
in that rifle. A good bolt action might stretch that to 200 yards. Bullets lighter than 50 grains will work best.

If you are after a cheap way of loading it and you can get some cheap FMJ bullets you could make or have made a die that allows a loaded round to just show the tip of the bullet and lets you file the tip off.

This is one that flew 100yds into earth at only 22mag vels from my Hornet. Used them to harvest rabbit and use up to slow a powder for Hornet. I had alot less wangers and zingers when modified this way.
Cheap too, S&B 45grn FMJ @ half the cost and then some!
I never did try them at full speed but reason they'd be ok, may not win any match's but the critters would still not like me!

You can use those pointy bullets in your gun if you use it as a two shooter. One in the chamber and one in the tube. I've done this for hunting with pointy bullets so I would have a followup shot quickly.

It does seem that unless you're really needing that downrange velocity to be maintained exceptionally well, the blunt bullets do just fine. The keg-shaped .44 Magnum bullets even do a right nice job of hitting the target out to 200 yards if you can know your trajectory.

I don't even like shooting the 150 grain .35 Remingtons that are pointy - they sure look like the tips are smaller than primer-sized to me!
