How I do it...

1. Take a picture
2. Put on computer
3. Size to the specs
4. Upload to www.photobucket.com
5. Save "Direct Link" code to avatar slot at the bottom of profile page.

I size my photos with Irfanview it is real easy to do once you use it a couple times. The avatar has to be within a limit of no more than 80x80 pixels AND no more than 6kb in size.

You can save pics from the net to use as well, I have done that alot when talking about different products.

Hope that helps.

You can also find free avatars on the web, for instance:

http://avatars.jurko.net/

Once you find one you like, click on properties and copy/paste the address of the specific avatar bracketed by the img tags. These will already be sized correctly for use on message boards.

You can also do a search for "avatar" on this forum. It's amazing what turns up. :-)

I followed your directions and used photobucket, however, when I try to add it to my avtar slot on my profile it tells me that my URL code is not valid. Can anyone give me a suggestion here. I ensured that the pic is 80x80.

Yeah, I told ya guys wrong, the "Direct Link" line is the one that needs to be pasted. Photobucket auto copies the codes of each line by just left-clicking them, instead of the old-fashioned way.
