ATF Form 4473 Shortage

#1 Post by Hobie » Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:40 am

I was told by somebody that the ATF couldn't deliver 4473s fast enough to meet the demand. Our shop has only one left. I was also told that we could copy the form and use the copies but the BATFE sitedoesn't show that. Does anyone here know what's up? What I really need is a link.

As to borrowing forms, that has been done to the point that most locals are down to very few forms.
Sincerely,

Hobie

In an anal society, Form Control is as good as Gun Control. ;)

I have filled out 4473's in the past that were yellow, pink, and white. Seems like they changed often especially the "yes" and "no" questions. For several years, the only ones I've seen have been white. I do remember filling one out last year that appeared to be a photocopy judging by the blurred edges and shading.

In 2002 I asked for a copy of the form I had just filled out in order to get a rebate from Ruger. The shop clerk refused at first saying it was verbotten by the bat men. I had to ask to see the shop owner and show him the Ruger ad. concerning the rebate to get the copy. As you have mentioned before, there are a lot of unanswered questions and confusion concerning gun laws.
m.A.g.a. !

I had read something similar last week. I will see if I can find the link about copying the forms.

Found it ... http://www.atf.gov/firearms/010609atf_f ... notice.htm

JetGirl over on RimfireCentral had posted about how well we were all doing buying guns that we've run the ATF out of 4473's. It was a post from Jan 8th and trivialities like that get stuck in my head. I went back over there and paged through some old stuff and saw it. Their search on that forum is not good ... I think the indices are always out of sync. Anyway, she had a link to prove her point.

Thanks. I could not (still can't) get their search to bring it up and their posted open letters end in Nov '08. Some might think this is a conspiracy to enact gun control but I think they are just simply incompetent.

What?? A government agency incompetent?? Heaven forbid!

Well, NOW it is on the front page but it is an itty bitty thing/link in small print below "the fold". Their page is way too busy and not well organized.

Yea but screw up on that form and you'll find out how organized they are.

Oh, yeah. Boss just went through an ATF audit. He's pretty much paranoid now. Was supposed to have his last "meeting" with the inspector yesterday.
