Post by meanc »

Would a post 64 front sight hood work on a Pre-64?

meanc,

When I got my 1950 several years ago I found that the groves for the sight hood were thinner on it than on the later sight ramps.

Luckily I had a pre-64 sight hood, but I determined that you can thin the fingers on a post 64 hood so they will fit the pre-64 ramp.

There may be tolerances at work here and my post-64 hood might have been on the big side, but that's what I found.

I just looked at my downloaded Winchester/Browning parts list and the standard cover for a nonremoveable ramp is a dollar plus shipping.

If it fits I was planning on giving Browning a call.

I just don't have any Winchesters that take the hood.

Thanks for the info though.
