THis will irritate everyone here..

Post by bigbore442001 »

I was surfing the net and looked at the information on this one hunting preserve in Vermont. I looked at the frequently asked questions and came across one regarding what would be a good weapon to bring on one of their hunts. Here is their reply:

We recommend .30 caliber or larger. Handgun, bowhunting, blackpowder, and shotgun with slugs is also permitted. We Strongly discourage lever-action guns because of the higher risk of accidental firing.

Who the hell wrote that? I belong to the Registered Maine Guides Association and would be happy to call them directly and discuss it with them. Hey if you want to use your levergun come to ME and hunt with us or we can book a hunt in VT that encourages leverguns. I'm happy to take their unwanted levergun business!

This is old news. It was posted here some months ago. I don't have a link, but if you can find the thread the contact info and web site is there.

Go get 'em Joe.

Yea I posted that awhile ago. I hunted there 25 years ago and had a great time. It seemed a odd suggestion but maybe they equate levers with a newbies first gun . Who knows. But it's a great place!

You know thats strange, I have heard a few people say that only newbies hunt with lever guns, but in reality I see a lot more newbies hunting with either bolts or semis. They have bought into the myth that only a BOLT gun is accurate, or that they have to have the latest in hunting "tech" to get'er done. I see lots of "old timers" and those like myself who have hunted a lot who have switched back over to the lever gun because of the inherent handling advantages.

Yawn, idiots, yawn, idiots like that just make me want to sleep yawn.

What they really mean is they don't want levergunners because they can hunt better than others and know how to shoot.

I would imagine that they have had a couple of close calls with clients letting hammers slip out from under their thumbs. I had someone do it in front of me once...made me madder than hell. But to his credit, he had the gun pointed in the dirt when it happened.

Like somehow a gun is more prone to go off because it's one type of action? And I suppose a single shot is apt to go full auto and empty itself with just one pull of the trigger!

Careless handling can affect someone regardless of the firearm being used. Rather than get mad, I'll get even and send 86er all of my business.

OK - Here's the plan:

I will take $1500 off their price on the bison, elk and red deer for the same sized animal in their pictures.

I will take $500 off their price on the fallow deer, rams, goats and boar for the same sized animal in their pictures.

I'll waive their extra fees for lodging, a non hunting guest, etc.

Bowhunter and handgun hunters WILL NOT "have to prove accuracy at 25 yards". You will have to live with the result of your shooting and your conscience and pay for an animal if you wound it and we cannot recover it. (How come they don't make rifle shooters "prove accuracy"? Rifles are okay to shoot poorly or not sight in properly?)

Ya'll bring those dangerous, "prone to accidental discharge" leverguns with you to TEXAS so we don't hurt any Vermonters.

Oh and by the way, we might have to hunt for these trophies since we have 1600 acres enclosed and the fallow and red deer are born wild on the property. Or we can go to another ranch for free ranging fallow, red deer, elk and bison. SAME PRICE.

How's that sound to ya?

They don't actually make you prove you can shoot. They just say that to ward off totally incompetent shooters, and to worry you into practicing. If you're looking to shoot something, that's the place to go. If you're looking to HUNT something, it's not.

I'd advise against that. The hunting really isn't that great here, especially when compared to other parts of the country. Or maybe I'm just bitter

I think anyone who makes a statement like that just shows how inexperienced they are with firearms. Plain and simple.
