Please check my reply to your 1886 takedown 45-90 post on the original forum before it goes away.
ADDED - If you search on crs you should find all my posts. Then skip anything not of interest. Since I purchased the rifle we have covered many interesting topics and most of the ones that you will find of value in getting your new 1886 tuned to your satisfaction. One thing yet to be reported are the results of experiments in accurate handloads of higher velocity than the hot .45-70 and .457 magnum loads. These are of both academic interest and for certain rare cases of hunting large and dangerous game, FUN.
Enjoy shooting the new rifle and please remember to share your experiences with it.

I did and thank you. I think I will go forward with the rifle purchase. Anything else you care to share? I would love to hear all you can tell me. I would really like to find your old posts. Thanks. 1886.

Thanks. If I am not mistaken the twist rate should be stated on the box tag. I had a chance to spend about 1 hour with this one yesterday. I usaually take about one hour going over a prospective purchase. This one is reported a not fired. The bore was full of a reddish brown stuff. It took me about 20 minutes to get it all out of the bore! The rifle had the packing grease still on it. The twist on this specimen is 1-20", or there abouts. So it is the same as my 86 Sporting Rifle(26" barrel) .45-70 and E.L. .45-70. I have shot bullets a heavy as 460grs with excellent results. I tried 500gr FNGC but they showed stabilization problems. The 500grainers shot really well through the Marlin Cowboy. Well thanks again for the info. 1886.
