Mods to increase COAL in Win 1894

Post by JFE »

Hi folks,

its been a while since my last visit.

Anyhow I bit the bullet and bought myself a 1894 BB in 375 top eject. It is in used (but not abused) condition and was reasonably priced. I am looking forward to running some cast loads through it. I was unable to find cases so I formed up some from 30/30. They came up a whisker short but they seem to work OK.

I recall seeing a post a while back on modifying a Win 1894 to increase COAL that can cycle through the action, however I could not find it when I did the obvious searches some time ago. Does anyone recall the post and would appreciate a link to that post.

Thanks in advance.

If it's just a little, the guides can be opened up. I'd have backups before I started filing.

12 U349994240 CARTRIDGE GUIDE,LEFT, 375 BIG BORE, $4.00

13 U349994250 CARTRIDGE GUIDE,RIGHT, 375 BIG BORE, $4.00
Kind regards,
Tycer

Tycer - thanks for the tip and that's exactly what I plan to do.

If I recall correctly the post mentioned extending COAL length from a nominal 2.55" to around 2.7ish".

That was my post. I modified a pre-64 carrier to feed a COL of 2.73":
