Gunshow; w/o Guns????

Post by Griff »

The following is an excerpt from a thread posted on the SASSWire:

Some disturbing news from Nevada, regarding an upcoming gun show. This e-mail was just received at my company's office:
Dear valued vendor,
In light of the recent unfortunate incident at Virginia Tech there has been a Corporate decision made to show our support to the families and loved ones of the victims by displaying no guns at the Boomtown Gun Knife and Hunting Show scheduled for May 11, 12 & 13.
The show will continue as scheduled. All hunting equipment, knives, accessories, sporting goods etc... will be displayed and sold as normal. The ONLY change to the show will be that there will be NO guns displayed.
I will be away at the Laughlin River Run today through Sunday. I will return to the office on Monday to handle any changes you may need to make in your table order status. Should you desire a change you may call and leave your name, company name and the table changes you desire on the answer machine
Please NO OTHER calls.
PLEASE leave all questions until Monday when it will be appropriate to call me. The answer to your most common questions has been supplied. YES we are having a Gun Accessory, Knife, Hunting, Sporting Goods Show as scheduled. NO you may not bring guns. All questions related to who, what, why etc are: The decision has been made to honor the victims of Virginia Tech. END OF STORY.
Rest assured the customers will still be there to shop. You have all seen the advertising. I also wish to offer my thanks to all of you as gun enthusiasts and vendors for continuing to support all my efforts in this venture. I appreciate your continued support of the show.

Thank you for your support and understanding,
Bert Guy

I really think that this is the wrong approach, and certainly supports our opposition in the gun control debate.

Again, this is just to show you what is happening in one small part of our country - not to cause any political commentary!

The decision on the part of the Boomtown Gun Show promoters not to have guns at the show is pandering and disingenuous at best. I see no honor in that course of action whatsoever. It accomplishes absolutely nothing except start the gun control snowball rolling.

Reminds me of that joke about the gun owner with a big sign in his front yard.

The sign pointed at the anti-gun neighbors house and said something like "I respect my neighbor's decision not to own any guns because he believes all problems can be solved by peaceful & polite discussion, and that all guns are evil. We, however, do own guns and if you break into our home you will meet one of them."

If all the houses in a neighborhood were identified on their mail boxes as either "pro-gun" or "anti-gun," I wonder if our Liberal friends would care to guess which houses would be broken into? The downside for the gun owners in that neighborhood would be all the midnight calls from the wimps who can't take care of themselves when their homes are broken into and their families are threatened! Man, that would mean a lot of lost sleep!

Well, they can call it what they want, but if there are no guns, it's not a gun show. I wouldn't waste my time going there.

This Boomtown announcement is so bizarre, I have a hard time believing it is actually true. This has got to be an email joke. It was a university student that did it .... maybe the Boomtown gun show should prohibit university students from attending too. If this is actually true, then you wouldn't catch me going near the Boomtown show out of principle.

lessee Griff, A businessman selling faux gattlinggun kits, exploding targets, in charge of a gunshow, drops a bomb like this on the vendors on wednesday, "a corporate decision" "END OF STORY" , and then leaves till monday so he can't be contacted? Shades of Jim Zumbo, he can't be that stupid. I may wind up wrong, but I smell a hoax.

Hmmm. The Boomtown Show has never been on my go-to list, so it means nothing to me, but the "non-gun" gun show concept does bother me, though. What do they expect to accomplish by banning guns at a gun show? I suppose the new name for the place will be "Doom Town", as their show is likely to disappear due to lack of interest.

Well, I'm pretty sure the event coordinator's voice mail will be full come today and Burt's voice mail Monday morning.

Anyway, Nevada is a great gun state and the only thing likely to happen is Gatling Guns just lost a tremendous amount of business.

I'm doubting this will have very little effect for anything pertaining to our gun rights future.

If this is for real, I'd guess his coment about the buyers still being there is really nuts! Anyone who hears that the show wont have guns will surely blow it off, and do something else. I'd guess any table holders who sell guns at this show will also cancell.
Maybe this is a antigun group's trick to close the show down?
