This was fired from a McPherson accurized Marlin 336 levergun at 150 yards.
EDIT: For the record, I did not fire the group. I am not sure I was ever that good of a shot and certainly am not now. But I am working on similar loads for my Trapper and in my correspondence with Mic McPherson he sent me this to show that it certainly can be done.

Saying that's a good group is really stating the obvious! I'm a huge fan of the .30-30, and believe it is a very accurate cartridge. Like yourself, I can't shoot as well as I once could, but still like to keep my .30-30s as accurate as they can be A worthy goal..

Thats the bullet my friend uses in his Savage 24 30-30. He usually only shoots 50-75 yds and says it will one-hole three shots. Uses Leverevolution powder. He has killed many a deer with it.

The group that I posted the photo of was fired with Leverevolution powder.
I have shot deer with that bullet also, from my Trapper, and it has worked quite well for me.

I've always meant to try that bullet in my short barreled 30-30's.
May try a few. Not so much to gain accuracy, as to see how they work in the field.
I used the Speer 130 to take this Whitetail at a bit over 100 yards. It has worked well on everything I have used it on so far. I have a friend who took an Elk using it in his Marlin.
A number of years back I used this bullet to make up some reduced-recoil hunting loads for my stepdaughter. In a stock , scoped 336, that load would shoot three in to an inch at 100 yards, benchrested with me shooting, and did it through 21 rounds in one afternoon, generous cooling-off periods between each group. She could never do better than about 2", but that was good enough for her to take a buck and a doe that season.

Have any of you guys chronographed what you get with this bullet? I'm thinking 25 with a long barreled rifle.
Merle....I'm really surprised it's good on the 200 meter rams....it does depend on how the rams are set. I've seen sooooo many dings with the 150's and even the 170's at our club. Up at Ridgway, they set them so even a slight wind blows em over. In fact, I knocked one over with a 70 gr. 25-20 during practice.---6
Trying to remember what the load chronographed at in my XLR, but I am thinking it was in the 27's.
MIght have to load a few and run over the chrony tomorrow, weather permitting.

Dang Jim....that's smokin'! Factory barrel? I hear numbers like that I start to get skeptical....I believe it but everything must be in line....nice tight chamber...tight groove diam..right powder.....good crimp....warm weather.....rifle length barrel....
Maybe I should shut my mouth and stay with what I know,.....cast bullets. ---6
I haven't used this particular Speer, but have a lot of experience with the Speer 130 gr. flat point jacketed bullets over a long period of deer hunting with them in a .30-30 Model 336 Marlin. They are very accurate, and allow the 336 in .30-30 to push velocities out well above heavier bullets.
Not sure I ever got groups as good as what JimT posted to start this thread, but got many 1"-1.25" 100 yd. groups. The Speer 130 flat point jacketed was deadly on mule deer out to 250 yds., and between my gun and my nephew's 336 we took a lot of mule deer with them. I think the 130 flat point Speer is the perfect weight and velocity for a great deer rifle in .30-30.

Is that a cast bullet? All the Speer 130 HotCor bullets I find are jacketed... I guess I'll have to find some to test out in my rifles... I like a little velocity... and lighter recoil never hurt me either!

Old eagle eye Griff......I'd say it looks more like the old cupro nickel from a hundred years ago.--6
My thoughts exactly! It looks like the older jacketed bullet. None of the Speer jacketed flat point 130's I've used had that nickel look to their jackets.

It's just the lighting and the reflection of what's around it. It's the standard Speer Hot Core 130 gr. FN.
