Eye Surgery Coming Up

Post by Blaine »

I knew it was developing and today at a VA eye appointment the nice lady couldn't explain fuzzy vision in left eye except for cataracts. I'm actually looking forward to it. The eyes have seriously sucked for a long time. :D 8) :D

After the surgery, be diligent in following the Opthalmologist's instructions. Techniques and equipment improve all the time. When it is healed, you will wonder why no one told you about your cataracts before.

Have fun. I think it is one of the few surgeries where people actually feel better and ARE better within 24 hours. Pretty cool stuff.

  As usual, VA takes its own sweet time. I'll get an evaluation by the surgeon on 25 August. Then, if applicable, a surgery date prolly a month or more out. Having complained a bit, I still remain truly grateful for my VA treatment.

My cataract surgery is half way finished. I had an appointment for March 14, that being the date of our first and last significant snowfall of the 2016-17 winter. Naturally they cancelled all the appointments and gave me a new appointment for some time in May, if I recall correctly. This was then changed to June and finally one last appointment which was in July. That treatment was a snap and now I was ready to get the other eye finished before our early deer season starts.

My Dr. couldn't find a date until October so I postponed that appt. to January, after all the deer and extended deer seasons were over. Since this is probably going to be my last deer season I didn't want to miss it because of my eyes. I will be ready in January provided that we aren't snowed in.

Good luck with yours Blaine, the most trouble mine caused was the self administered eye drops. Had me wondering how I could miss the bullseye at less than 1 inch distance.

As far as eye drops go, the insurance companies say you can get 20 drops out of each milliliter. I wonder how the pencil pushing penurious Scrooges think that it is possible to never miss your eye with a drop? Hitting your eye with a drop is not the easiest thing in the world.

I don't even try. I pull the lower lid down and let a drop barely touch it. Done and Done... :D

When my wife was working as a nurse in the recovery room they would often have patients that were return customers. One lady had already done the cataract in one eye and she was back for the second one. My wife greeted her and asked her how she liked being able to see again. She said well it has it's good and bad points. My wife was surprised, she said oh what are the bad points? She said well you know I went shopping for some wallpaper for my bathroom. I hired a professional to come put it up and it was really pretty with nice little green flowers on it. After I got my first eye done I looked at that wallpaper and found out that they weren't flowers at all, they are frogs... and I hate frogs.

NOooooo ! ! !

AFAIK, both eyes are NEVER done at the same time, just in case................

AND, most likely, your vision will change - after my surgery I require RX glasses only for reading fine print, light print, or reading in dim light, and can get by with $1 reading glasses (several magnifications available) from a Dollar Store.

They could not say for sure whether or not my very fuzzy vision in left was a cataract. On a scale of 1-5 they said mine was a 2 and should not be causing the problem. They gave me some eyedrops for dry eye and kicked the can down the road until the end of Nov. After 2 months of the drops, I don't see one bit of improvement.

I'm 72, had my eye surgery two years ago, it was amazing, night and then day. I had cataracts on both eyes, one at a time. I told my Dr. I could not see to
shoot at distances and he got me right in. Wow, it was amazing, I now can see like I could when I was young. No glasses even needed except for small print
and up close reading, just reading glasses. I waited too long to have it done, the surgery was amazing, painless, so glad I did it finally.
