I have an original 32 Winchester single cavity mold in 160 grain. It was manufactured 1895-1900. All this talk got me excited to pull the mold and cast up a few hundred leads. Then it's time to work up a good load. My current 32 win reloads are with Speer 170gn flatnose jacketed.

Congrats Mick, the 480 Ruger is my favorite cartridge. It's like lobbing hammers down range. Ranch Dog made some awesome 480 R molds, even a six cavity one. A large flat nose, weight around 390 grain.

In 45 plus years of hunting Whitetail deer my 32 Winchesters have dropped more than 40 animals. Almost all were one shot kills, never lost an animal. Never had a failure.

I prefer a larger bore with a heavier bullet. My 480 Ruger is great for timber. A 1894 Winchester rifle in 38/55 gets me out to 150 yards plus/minus. A Winchester model 70 claw extractor in 375 H&H covers all other large game.

My Rossi 44 was my favorite lever until I picked up a 480 Ruger, then the 44 moved down the road. My 480R is a delight to carry and shoot and I love the 390 grain hammers that it throws. I fully understand the attraction of the 44, bigger is definitely better.

I would expect a cleaning rod to leave round or circular marks. These look more like someone took a piece of 1/4" hot rolled round and snipped it with a bolt cutter. Then proceeded to pound it on the bolt causing the marks in the cold rolled bolt (softer steel than hot rolled). I doubt it would...
