well, from from i have been reading from different sources, was that the ammo that custer was using was copper cased instead of brass. they were having trouble getting the empties to eject from being stuck in the the throat from expansion.

my son in law inherited two 1897 pump shotguns from his grandfather . one is a twelve gauge circa around 1912, and a 16 gauge circa around 1950 if I remember correctly. nice get ems. they both have external hammers with half cock safeties. I had to teach him on that part

my buddy had one of those. he lived on a ten acre farm, when deer came to eat the tops out of soybeans he would pluck one from the back porch, I wish I had it , he sold all his guns before passing and i didn't know about it
