Wow, so many choices!
The .38-55 Ballard is a performer, as is the .40-70 Sharps Straight. For thump, .50-70 Government or .577 Snider. For a little less thump, .56-50 Spencer. Why not invoke the memories of our forebears? The "Old Dead Guys" had some great hunting juju. 8)

Re: Another .410 thread

By the way, solved the bolt release mystery with advice from gunsmith friend Tom Jackson. I pulled the stock per Tom's advice and there was the flat spring holding a bolt stop button into the bolt raceway. Turns out, you retract the bolt, which leaves a hole in the bottom of the raceway just visible...

Another .410 thread

Thanks to our dear, enabling friend in the United Kingdom, I got the .410 single-shot bug and came up with this one. It is a Revelation/Western Auto Model 335, and may be unfired. I initially thought it might be a Mossberg product, but after looking at schematics, it is definitely a version of Marli...

More dry and hot here. Have an 8,000-acre wildfire burning the northeast corner of the Capitan Wilderness, zero containment, with heavy air tanker traffic out of the Alamogordo airport. Should start seeing some Gulf of Mexico moisture in the next 48 hours.

Harry, it's the one with the scope. Serial is E 34X and the original .30-30 barrel was still marked Model 36. Unfortunately the waffle top receiver had already been drilled and tapped so I used it for the donor. John Taylor fitted the barrel and used a Manson reamer to chamber it. The other rifle is...

Blaine, that's a good question. I have been on atorvastatin for years with some improvement in HDL/LDL and room for more. But as Doc mentioned, most labs don't test for oxidized cholesterol. Cast boolit hunting alloy?

Lots of theories on this. Many want a hard cast boolit that scarcely deforms but pencils right on through a game animal -- "letting air in and air out." Others want some deformation to help open the wound channel and increase internal damage for a quick kill. Paul Matthews, in his book &qu...

Good luck Ford. The one I had now lives in Texas, but I hope to run a 1951 336-A in .35 Remington in the woods this fall. I have the Lee 200-grain boolit to test, but would prefer more weight. However, you have to choose a mold wisely to fit the earlier Marlins with very little throat. I like this o...
