I have had a #3 in 45/70 for awhile now, about 15 years or so. It is a great woods carbine. It has one advantage for me over the #1, the lever has a fairly stout detent to stop it from opening as opposed to the #1's lever release button which has been know to be bumped and drop the lever at the wors...

45/70 500 grain cast load does a number on one. I have been thinkin on one of the Magneto Speed ones. A couple of folks at the range have them and like them.

I have yet to manage messing up a Leupold , I have had a couple of mine for over 30 years and no problems yet, so I have no experience with their customer service. Swift customer service is great but the scope they replaced my old one with is no where near as nice a scope as the original.

215 grain plain base 7 grains of unique is nice mild load. Pop gun load is same bullet over I think is 5.7 grains of Trailboss. Same bullet over 8.5 grains of Unique will break both shoulders of a 200+ pound hog at 40 yards out of 6 inch model 57

looks like a rich boy's toy. They do make them. I have been fishing off of Port Canaveral FL and had a Trident go under the boat. That was pretty cool.

There is a gunshop on OBT near Poinciana that has a 92 in 38 wcf. Bore is dirty but did not look bad. Tagged as having parts missing. they are asking $450 for it. If anyone is interested I will look up name and number.

40 yards is about the max for taking a deer with buckshot from my experience although I di see one buck dropped at about 80. The guy hit the deer with one pellet right at the base of the skull, pure luck on his part.

Glad you are back up Griff. Biggest problem with building transmissions is getting parts. Last time I built an 8ll it took over 2 weeks to get the pieces. I could have had a rebuilt the next day. Luckily down time was not an issue.

I have an Aimpoint PRO on one of my rifles and I recently helped a buddy sight in a Vortex StrikefireII. I like the Strikefire better and it is less than 1/2 the money.

Many years ago had a "camp" fox at a hunting camp in FL. Would come up looking for scraps at meal times. Really cool part was had no problems with mice fro the couple of years he was around.

I know for sure I missed a deer when I shot at a buck about 75 yards away from a ground blind and clipped a branch that was part of my blind. I know for sure because I killed him the next day from the same blind but a bit further away and he didn't have any extra holes and no branch blew up in front...
