Excellent choice! My woods gun is a Glock 27 .40 S&W. Close enough in power to a .45 ACP when loaded with 180 and 200GRN. hardcast. Lots lighter and more bullets.

If I was hunting a Big bear, the .44M wins hands down. Protection from a bear, the .40 is probably just as good.

I always stuck with the 405 FN because I have the mold and only shoot deer in brush country and I figure the heavier the better for that. :) That 405 does make the 45-70 capable of killing most anything in North America... it makes my 5-1/2" Redhawk capable of killing anything in NA too . . . ...

I have an IAC copy. You gotta rack the lever back hard to get reliable feeding. other than that, a really neat gun.

Just my 2 cents. Seems like a .357 with 180grn. Hardcast would be about perfect for your needs, unless, you are set on a .45 auto wheelgun.

Where I hunt in the mountains, 100 yards is a long shot. It is HEAVILY brushed, so a clear lane of fire isn't always possible. So, I'm happy with the .444 and 45-70 results. Your hunting may vary
